Tell Us About Your ACCESS-enabled Research! | If ACCESS has helped you accomplish groundbreaking research, our communications team wants to hear about it!
Get to Know Our Resources
The institutions that provide compute and other resources through ACCESS are the backbone of the program's cyberinfrastructure. They're the ones who share cyberinfrastructure resources and the expertise of data experts with the researchers and scientists who request allocations.

ACCESS Resource Provider Forum Elects Its First Chair
The Resource Provider Forum, which works to facilitate the ecosystem of cyberinfrastructure resources, recently elected its first chair. After a robust nomination process, voters chose Eva Siegmann from Stony Brook University as their new RP Forum Chair. Siegmann is the lead research scientist of the Ookami project, the associate director of the Arm HPC user group, and a reviewer and panelist for NSF. She has over a decade of experience in scientific computing.

Maximize ACCESS Allocations Requests Accepted June 15–July 31
For researchers with the largest-scale computational, analysis and storage needs, requests for Maximize ACCESS allocations can be submitted during the period of June 15–July 31. Approved allocations will begin or renew on October 1, 2023. The full allocation request timeline is as follows:
- June 15: Request window opens
- July 31: Request window closes
- Late August: Review meeting
- Mid-September: Notifications sent to requestors
- October 1: Start/renewal date
| |
|
The Maximize ACCESS cycle will happen on a semi-annual cadence, with the next proposal submission opportunity from December 15 to January 31, with awards starting April 1, 2024. Researchers with existing large-scale XSEDE Research or earlier Maximize ACCESS should contact the Allocations team using the ticketing system with any questions or concerns to determine the best option for aligning their project renewals with the semi-annual schedule.
How to Write a Successful ACCESS "Maximize" Proposal
Researchers interested in requesting a "Maximize" ACCESS allocation are encouraged to watch the recorded webinar that details the required components, review criteria and other necessary information to craft a successful request.
For researchers with less-intensive resource requirements, we invite you to browse three other ACCESS allocation opportunities, which can be requested at any time.

Update Your Publication Information
Has your use of ACCESS resources resulted in a publication? If so, please add your publication to the ACCESS publication database. The link can also be found by logging in and clicking on "My ACCESS" and then "My Publications." The updated interface allows for publications to be added via DOI and also links the publication directly to the associated ACCESS project it resulted from.
This information is useful to the reviewers of your allocation requests and greatly benefits the ACCESS program and NSF by demonstrating the scientific impact of these resources. For guidance on how to cite ACCESS in your publications, please see the section on "Acknowledging ACCESS."
| |
Connect Your ACCESS ID to Your ORCID Profile
If you've been awarded, or are planning to request, an ACCESS allocation, you can now link your allocation to your ORCID profile. ORCID provides a free, unique, persistent identifier for individuals to use as they engage in research, scholarship, and innovation activities. To link your ACCESS ID to ORCID profile, login to ACCESS here and follow the prompts to connect your accounts.

|
Optional Demographic Profile Information
In addition to the basic information provided to ACCESS, such as name, email, institution and academic status, optional demographic information fields are now available to staff and all ACCESS ID holders to provide a better representation of an individual's specific profile. Fields such as age, gender, racial group(s), race/ethnicities and disability or special-need status are now available for optional upload. This optional demographic falls in line with the ACCESS program's vision of "effectively supporting a broad and diverse set of requirements, users, and usage modes from all areas of S&E research and education." Optional demographic data can be updated by logging into ACCESS then clicking on "My ACCESS," then "Edit Profile."
New Resource Integration Options for Resource Providers
ACCESS has introduced three new resource integration options for ACCESS-allocated Resource Providers (RPs):
- RPs can now deploy on their compute resources an ACCESS OnDemand Portal, which provides researchers with remote web access capabilities from any device, anywhere. A list of resources with OnDemand Portals is available here. Researchers can obtain help using OnDemand by opening a ticket. RPs can obtain help installing and configuring OnDemand by opening an Operations Request.
- RPs can now use ACCESS Identity and Access Management (IAM) services to authenticate users accessing local services.
- RPs can now obtain access-ci.org DNS subdomains in order to create and manage their own host and service DNS records under that subdomain.
These three new integration options are described in improved resource integration instructions (a.k.a. roadmaps) that have been recently published here.

ACCESS Makes Security a Priority
The ACCESS Operations Security Team has been building and improving cybersecurity since the program awards in May 2022. In the first year alone, they've built and deployed a comprehensive Identity and Access Management (IAM) infrastructure, deployed active vulnerability scanning and management, established the ACCESS Cybersecurity Governance Council and more.

Successful Launch of the STEP Program
Travel Grant Program Available
With PEARC23 right around the corner and many planning for fall conferences, ACCESS Support would like to remind the community about the incredible travel grant program available to anyone 18+ at a US-based institution, the CSSN Community Engagement Program (CCEP). CCEP provides travel support ($750-$2,500) in return for your contributions to the community, such as ask.CI questions and answers, CI Links, and totally new contributions in the form of a grant submission of workshops, tutorials and live events (to name a few). Please feel free to reach out directly to Alana Romanella with questions and comments regarding the program and how we can improve to meet your needs.
