Hypermutants in Hiding

Hypermutations are rare in nature even though they tend to take over in lab experiements. A researcher at the University of Michigan uses Neocortex and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center to better understand this phenomenon and why it isn’t more common.

Supercomputers for Big Science Simulations

Researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison tapped into ACCESS resources across the country to simulate plasma turbulence. Anvil at Purdue University performed the heavy lifting, deploying 512 nodes in a single simulation.

What's New?

Nominations Now Open for ACCESS Researcher Advisory Board

Do you know faculty members or Principal Investigators interested in getting involved with ACCESS? Are you interested in contributing your knowledge to help guide the program? Now is your chance to nominate yourself or another experienced individual for the ACCESS Researcher Advisory Board (RAC). See the nomination form to nominate yourself or a colleague or to learn more about RAC. Nominations will be accepted through 5 p.m. Central time Friday, March 7. When nominating people other than yourself, ACCESS staff will follow up with the nominated individual to confirm their interest and have them submit their own application. If you have additional questions about the nominations process, please ask them using the ACCESS feedback form.

ACCESS On-Ramps is Easy For Institutions to Deploy

Institutions are rapidly adopting ACCESS On-Ramps, a user-friendly JavaScript component that simplifies the discovery of ACCESS cyberinfrastructure for their audiences. Embedding On-Ramps into a website is as easy as copying and pasting a few lines of Javascript, with most organizations able to implement it independently. One partner noted about the process, “It was so easy!” while another partner called it “seamless.” At this time, 19 institutions have adopted On-Ramps, including Columbia University, Boston University, and Texas A&M. That number continues to grow; view an updated list of participating institutions below.

Anvil Gets an Upgrade

Purdue University's ACCESS-allocated Anvil supercomputer recently added 84 NVIDIA H100 SXM GPUs to the system thanks to funding provided by the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot Program. With this upgrade, Anvil is now poised to deliver a world-class AI supercomputing resource to researchers nationwide. The system will enhance artificial intelligence workflows and help the U.S. lead the charge in AI research. The photo above shows the Anvil team, from left to right: Arman Pazouki, Carol Song, Preston Smith and Rajesh Kalyanam.
