Two students at the City University of New York (CUNY) are using Purdue University’s Anvil supercomputer to train artificial intelligence on the difference between opinion and fact when it comes to the news. They worked on two separate projects to determine how the news was being presented.

A Path to More Effective Medicine

A New Forecasting Tool for Farmers
University of Maryland researchers used Rockfish at Johns Hopkins University and Bridges-2 at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center to develop a dashboard for water use and nutrient management that enhances NOAA’s seasonal climate forecasts.

EAB Nominations Now Open
Do you know somebody in cyberinfrastructure interested in getting involved with ACCESS? Are you interested in contributing your knowledge to help guide the program? Now is your chance to help the ACCESS program live up to its full potential by nominating experienced individuals for the ACCESS External Advisory Board (EAB). The EAB is an essential element of the ACCESS governance structure, ensuring that the program benefits from input and feedback from a diverse and wide range of community stakeholders and experts. Individuals may nominate themselves and/or offer the names of others who may be interested. In the case of nominating others, ACCESS staff will follow up with the recommended individual to confirm their interest and have them submit an application on their behalf. Nominations will be accepted through 5 pm PT on Nov. 27. Questions should be directed to info@access-ci.org.

Find the Right Info for You At ACCESS
We’re always looking to adapt to the needs of our community. In that spirit, we’ve updated our web presence to help visitors more quickly find the information they need most. Depending on how a visitor interacts with ACCESS, they have five new entry points – and updated top navigation – to learn more about the program with quick links to key areas they’ll need to navigate to most often. Now, when visitors click on the “Get Started” button on the ACCESS homepage, they’ll be guided to landing pages targeted to the role they play in the ACCESS community. In addition to landing pages, top navigation has been reworked to provide persistent access to content across the ACCESS web presence. New additions include Resources, linking to our Resource Catalog; Events & Trainings; News; About and links to the landing pages.

New Option For Accessing ACCESS Resources
ACCESS community members can now upload their public SSH keys to log in to ACCESS resource providers using the ACCESS ID Management system. Users simply log in to ACCESS ID Management Web Service using their ACCESS user ID and password. The service allows users to upload their public key, which is saved by ACCESS using the CoManage collaborative management system. The key can then be requested by Resource Providers when enabling a user’s account, for example, when an RP sets up a user’s allocation. Keep in mind that not all RPs are using the key retrieval service yet, so it might take some time before all RPs are ready to obtain SSH public keys from the ACCESS Registry. Now is a Great Time to Prepare Your Maximize ACCESS Proposal
The next window to submit Maximize ACCESS applications opens on Dec. 15 and closes on Jan. 31, 2025. The next review meeting will be held in March 2025. For instructions on how to apply, please review the Prepare Requests webpage, which includes two training videos. The Allocations team will also hold two live training webinars on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. Eastern Time, and Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. ET. First Global Open OnDemand Conference Announced
The inaugural Global Open OnDemand Conference (GOOD25) will be held March 18 – 20 at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. The in-person event will feature live keynote sessions, talks, BoFs, tutorials and the chance to get to know fellow members of the Open OnDemand Community. Registration is now open and proposals for talks, BoFs, tutorials and posters will be accepted through Dec. 9. The conference encourages a full array of presentation modalities, including prerecorded talks. Travel support is also available. More information can be found at the GOOD website.

Maximize ACCESS Proposals Top 90
During the previous round of submissions, ACCESS received 91 Maximize ACCESS proposals submitted by 58 Principal Investigators from across the U.S. The most heavily-represented fields of science were: biophysics, materials engineering, condensed matter physics, particle and high-energy physics, and astronomy and planetary sciences.

Stony Brook's Ookami:
Eva Siegmann, lead research scientist at Stony Brook University, shares what makes this ACCESS-allocated resource special
"Ookami was initially deployed as a testbed, featuring Fujitsu A64FX CPUs (as in Fugaku). Over time, it transitioned and is now in production mode. In addition to A64FX CPUs, it also has Marvel ThunderX2, AMD Milan, Intel Skylake and NVIDIA GraceGrace CPUs. The system is well suited for a wide range of applications, while at the same time being power-efficient. Ookami is particularly good for CPU-based codes that are well-vectorized and parallelized. Nearly all applications run out of the box with minimal setup. Additionally, the Ookami project team is on hand to provide extensive support, ensuring a smooth and accessible experience for all users. There are various slurm partitions to satisfy all user needs."
