"I just say, think about joining because you might need it someday... It might not seem like a lot right now, but down the line in ten years if you’re thinking about getting out of a hot, small kitchen and into a larger kitchen or corporation, that ACF certification or that ACF membership will go a long way.”

The Challenge ends on October 31! Recruit your co-workers and peers to join ACF as Professional members today.

Childhood Nutrition Day is just around the corner! Make a difference in your community by hosting awareness events. It can be as simple as offering healthy treats at a community event or hosting an activity session at an after-school program. A limited number of grants are available to help you with food purchases for your event.
ACF Professional Chefs Association of South Jersey kicked off their month-long schedule of Childhood Nutrition Day events by teaching families at the Community Food Bank of South Jersey about incorporating fruits and veggies in their meals. The kids especially enjoyed making fruit smoothies with the chefs!

Introducing...
PSI, NOCTI and the ACF Certification Commission have worked hard to launch the following initiatives concerning ACF written exams:
•
Savory exam rewrites (CC, CSC, CCC, and CEC) – With the assistance of more than 100 volunteers and more than two years of work, all four savory written exams have new questions, content and updated reference materials.
•
¿Habla Español? Coming soon, the CEC written exam will be available in Spanish. To accompany the exam, we have translated the CEC Candidate Handbook as well.
•
New Written Exam Retake Policy – Effective October 3, 2018, any candidate who does not pass their written exam must wait fourteen days from failure of the exam to schedule the retake their exam. Candidates have unlimited opportunities to retest; however, fees are assessed for each exam attempt.

Beverage Management will be required for all CEC and CEPC Certified Chefs beginning
October 1, 2018. Anyone in pre-approval or currently certified prior to that date will be exempt from this requirement.
You may have this course in a current transcript. If not, a new course has been developed to meet the requirements.

This week on We Are Chefs
|
|
ACF Chef Geoff Blount, president of the Myrtle Beach Chapter, and Chef Amy Sins of New Orleans
served up some comfort
after Hurricane Florence.
Given the enduring benefit of the contributions to
Halloween made by immigrants, from pralines to spice cakes, we should say perhaps a grateful “Thank You!” rather then a hurried (and commercialized) “Trick or Treat.”
