In this Lunar Eclipse edition of the COMET we have a wealth of special features for you to explore. On May 29, a total Lunar Eclipse will be visible in the half of the world flanking the Pacific Ocean. When the shadow of the Earth covers the Full Moon, the Vedic astrologers speak of the pair of Shadow Planets, Rahu and Ketu.

ACVA instructor Karina Weil has contributed an article on what happens when Rahu is activated as the ruler of the Rahu Vimshottari Mahadasha period. Our ACVA students first learn about eclipses, Rahu and Ketu in courses 101 and 102, but it takes considerably more time before they learn to work out the full significance of changes in the birth chart over time through the Vimshottari Dashas (course 108). But it is well worth the effort, as this timing system has an astonishing power to reveal how events might unfold.

In Kamala Harris, Durga Rising, I have given a capsule biography of United States Vice President Kamala Harris, who has Rahu in her rising sign, and is going through Rahu Mahadasha AND recently experienced a transit of Rahu across her Ascendant. Our 104, 105 and 106 students are in the process of learning how the chart elements are put together to tell the story in the birth chart.

RAMAYANA: THE ETERNAL SCRIPTURE

Bangalore Sureshwara Sri Rama! The eternal incarnation of God has been a household name from time immemorial around the world. Sages and saints have clearly emphasized that the very devotional repetition of HIS name on a daily or regular basis brings immense peace, happiness, pleasure and Bliss. Millions of people of all ages in each and every age of the human existence have experienced special magical moments in their lives when they devotionally and spiritually surrendered to Lord Sri Rama.

Historical and Theological Events There has been a lot of discussion covering the date or period of Ramayana. Various archeologists, historians, vedic-theologians and other scholars have attempted centuries after centuries to define the specific period around which Sri Rama ruled the Empire of Ayodhya, which encompassed a large and extensive areas of territories pivoted around Ayodhy in India. They have indicated the period of Ramayana to be not less than 5000 B.C

The Spiritual Life as a Rudder in the Mists of Rahu Mahadasha

The actual effects of the mahadasha of Rahu are reputedly some of the hardest to predict and understand. Classical texts describe a smorgasbord of possible unpredictable experiences that unfold within a spectrum that range from material gains and losses, amidst mental distress, to spiritual insights and transformation, covering every emotional shade in between (Parashara, Ch. 55 in Pijan, 2013). Such events can be simultaneously exhilarating, but also confusing and daunting; especially the first and the last years. For those who have experienced the dasha, it would be a euphemism to call it a roller coaster. For this reason, the long 18 years of the Rahu life cycle can be described as a period of personal crisis.

KAMALA HARRIS – DURGA RISING and RAJA YOGAS

Kamala Devi Harris became the first Black woman to be elected Vice President of the United States on January 20, 2021. Who is this person, a woman, an attorney, who claims both Black and Indian American heritage? What has her impact been in the fraught time of the 2020 election in the midst of a pandemic, uproar over police violence against Black Americans, and a violent neo-Fascist attempt to disrupt the election and inauguration? What do we make of this lady, whose name Kamala means lotus and whose middle name Devi invokes the divine feminine power or shakti, who has appeared at this time in America? Why does it seem to me at times when watching her on the podium, that one is seeing the Goddess Durga ride her tiger?
