Innovative Services Northwest to Pay $136,500 in EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit (8-5-2024) -Settles Federal Charges Non-Profit Failed to Accommodate a Disabled Employee and Unlawfully Terminated Her.

EEOC Sues Wilson Logistics for Violating the Americans with Disabilities Act (7-31-2024)

EEOC sued Missouri-based trucking company Transportation Management Group, doing business as Wilson Logistics, for violating federal law when it refused to hire a deaf job applicant because of his disability.

(This case is based on refusal to hire based solely on disability.)

National Telecommuting Institute Settles Discrimination Suit for $1.25 Million. (8-8-24)

The EEOC’s lawsuit charged NTI with violating the Americans with Disabilities Act when it did not pursue placement or referral of blind and low-vision job applicants as telephone-based customer service agents when the company became aware that applicants used accessibility technologies such as screen readers to convert computer text to speech – presuming that the company’s client employers were not able to support the accommodating technology at that time. The lawsuit also alleged that NTI denied disability-related accommodations during their pre-employment application process.

Pilot Air Freight to Pay $400,000 to Settle Disability Discrimination Lawsuit (8-13-24)

The EEOC alleged in its lawsuit that, in early June 2019, Thomas Hunt informed his manager that he needed to request leave to see his doctor about some biopsy results. About 10 days later, Hunt was terminated by Pilot, allegedly as a result of a reduction in force.

Justice Department Secures Landmark Agreement with Los Angeles County to Increase Accessibility for Voters with Disabilities (8-1-24)

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California surveyed hundreds of polling places in the June 2016, March 2020, November 2020, and November 2022 elections and found the vast majority had architectural barriers, such as steep ramps, abrupt level changes at walkways and entrance doors, and lack of accessible parking. These impediments prevented people with mobility and vision disabilities from being able to safely access vote centers and cast their ballots in person. The lawsuit also alleged that the county’s curbside voting program was inaccessible, as certain vote centers lacked signage indicating that curbside voting was available or failed to provide sufficient means by which a voter could contact an election worker for assistance with curbside voting.
