The APP Journey

APP Class 42 has spent the last 8 weeks preparing for careers in union construction. With just weeks to go until graduation, here is a look into their journey of preparing to secure union apprenticeships!

 Employment Development

Now that the class nearly has all of their certifications, sessions enable students to practice presenting these credentials to a potential employer.

 Experiential Learning

Practicing their tiling skills! Most of the class reports that getting out into the field is one of their personal highlights of the program thus far.

 Hikes & Physical Fitness

Weekly hikes and physical fitness sessions prepare students for the physical difficulty of the job while providing a healthy outlet for stress.

 Construction Site Tours

Visits to active construction sites help participants get a sense of how the different trades all work together on a job site.

 Union Visits

The class visits over six local unions. During these visits, students may have a chance to try their hand at the trade.

 Hands-on Practice

Class 42 has completed lots of hands-on practice. Now, the group is building and painting Little Free Libraries.

We would love to have you join us for the last APP graduation of 2022 on November 10th - RSVP here!

Snakes, tacos, and more at YOP Halloween!

Youth of Promise (YOP) celebrated Halloween with one of their spookiest events of the year! The evening started off with a reptile show by The Reptile Zoo while everyone enjoyed an array of Halloween-themed drinks. Families then enjoyed tacos cooked by YOP’s very own case manager Daniel, and youth participated in festive contests. Holiday celebrations provide engaging and fun events for the whole family, from younger siblings to grandparents of participants!

Checking out the reptiles! Most of the reptiles could be pet or held.

Toilet paper mummy competition is always a blast.

The reptile show was packed with interesting information!

YOP created a Día de los Muertos Ofrenda

YOP spent three weeks in October preparing their ofrenda for Día de los Muertos (November 1st-2nd). Youth worked with a Tía Chucha’s art facilitator to prepare papel picado and in later sessions decorated painted skulls and frames for their photos of loved ones. This process provided an outlet for youth who are grieving to process their emotions in community.

 HireLAX hits 300 grads

HireLAX graduated Cohort 14 in early October, taking the program to over 300 Apprenticeship Readiness Program (ARP) graduates. With the support of their partners in the Building Trades and contractor partners, the program is currently at 202 union placements. Flintridge Center provides the case management services for HireLAX ARP participants. Congrats to the HireLAX team and network for starting over 300 careers and changing so many lives!

 Welcome, Leticia!
