Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response

The Express: June 2023

This issue of The Express highlights the following new and updated resources:

Heatwaves and utility outages are affecting various areas of the country; we invite you to access our recently updated Utility Failures Topic Collection, the heat-related sections in our Natural Disasters Topic Collection, and Issue 17 of The Exchange which focuses on utility outages and extreme heat. Reach out to ASPR TRACIE if you need technical assistance.

The LGBTQI+ Community and Disaster Preparedness and Response (New Topic Collection)

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI+) communities continue to be disproportionately affected by disasters and mass casualty incidents (MCIs) because of preexisting disparities, historical marginalization, and discrimination. The LGBTQI+ Community and Disaster Preparedness and Response Topic Collection includes resources for individuals; lessons learned from recent public health emergencies, MCIs, and natural disasters; tools for planning; resources for emergency planners and health care providers; and resources specific to behavioral health.

Updated! EMS Infectious Disease Playbook: Version 2.0

The EMS Infectious Disease Playbook was recently reviewed by subject matter experts and updated to include information on Mpox and COVID-19. The playbook synthesizes multiple sources of information in a single planning document, culminating in a concise reference resource for emergency medical services agencies developing their service policies.

Air Quality Resources

Smoke from wildfires and excessive heat events continue to affect air quality across the country. ASPR TRACIE added an Air Quality Resources category to the Climate Change and Healthcare System Considerations Topic Collection to help health care planners and providers expect, understand, and communicate about health threats posed by poor air quality to community members.
