“The never ending seasons
That so lightly come and go
Are miracles of wisdom
No man can ever know.”

Seasonal festivals are an essential part of Blue Oak culture and community. In Fall, we celebrate with the Harvest Festival. It is a time for us to come back together to build and strengthen our connections as a community.

Chinese Club
Mondays 3:15-4:30 (Beginning September 25th)
Room 17 (Teacher Susan’s Kindergarten)

We would like to start a Chinese club to share the heritage of our Chinese families. We will meet for an hour each week. During this time, everyone can learn Mandarin through singing and storytelling. We will also do some crafts and learn to write simple Chinese characters.

We will start with the very basic like counting and greeting. As the time goes, we will progress as we learn more. This is a chance for us to learn about the language as well as the culture together. Throughout the year, we will also learn the Chinese stories about seasons and holidays, and how Chinese people celebrate the holidays around the world. You don’t have to be Chinese to join in, and there is no prior knowledge required. We are looking for anyone who is interested in learning to speak Mandarin as well as wanting to know more about the Chinese culture. There is no age limit for this club. The parents are welcome to join us as well. Please complete a permission slip for this after school offering. They’re available at the front desk.
Thank you to the Garden Club members, Jackie Hammer, & Michelle Daugherty who recently made homemade salsa from our school gardens with all the 3rd graders last week.

Also, special thank Amy Lawrence who has been instrumental in the Kindergarten gardens this year!

Annual Giving Campaign
Our Annual Giving campaign will continue through September. Any donations received on or before September 30th will be matched at a rate of 5%. (that's 2 more weeks to donate) So far we have raised approximately $12,675. We hope to at least triple that by 9.30.17

We raise money every year so we can continually support our unique public Waldorf program.
Blue Oak is a FREE public Waldorf School. Private Waldorf schools charge upwards of $20,000 a year in tuition! At Blue Oak, we are hoping for $200 per student per year, so we can provide your children with a quality education infused with art, music, and movement.

We do understand that this may not be doable for all families. All we ask is that you give what you can. Even $5 a month makes a difference. And please give what you can in September so we can get those matching funds!

Donations can be made online or at the front desk. Cash checks and credit cards are accepted.
(online please choose the "wherever funds are most needed" option for this campaign)
Volunteers Needed
Garden Club assistance
Who? 2nd and 3rd grade parents to help in the gardens
When? contact garden cub @
Our school gardens are a teaching tool for our children.
During 3rd grade the children are studying practical living skills,

Chess Club assistant
Who? 1 volunteer
When? Wednesdays 3:15 - 4:15 pm
Kevin Brightling (volunteer parent coach) is looking for some assistance with Chess Club this year. It is VERY popular and he has a lot of interested kids this year. NO CHESS experience needed, he just needs and additional adult in the room.
You can contact him directly 530.354.4715 or

Reading Aide substitutes
Who? 3-5 volunteers
When? MW 10:50-11:30,T TH 11:35-12:15, F 10:50-11:30
We are hoping to train a few volunteers on how to lead our 2nd & 3rd grade mid-level reading groups. Last spring we often had to cancel reading groups when an aide was out sick. This loses our fidelity in reading instruction.

School Site Council members
Who? At least 4 parents
When? Approximately 6 meetings this school year - Meeting #1 in late October (schedule t.b.d.)
What? The School Site Council is the oversight committee for Title 1 and is required by Federal Law. The focus of this committee will be Student Achievement to advise the board on Student Achievement and the use of Title 1 funds. The Council will be composed of staff members, students, parents, and community members.
The scope of this work includes: review of test scores, demographics, ELD, professional development and parent community engagement.
This Council requires a parity between parent/community/students and school staff.
Please let us know if you are insterested OR if you would like to nominate someone.
A school wide vote will determine who sits on this council.

Who? At least 2 parents
When? ASAP but open to your schedule
What? Move lockers from corner of the Great Room to the Music Room.
Lockers will need to be unboldted, moved and then re-secured to the walls in the Music Room.
They will be utilized for band instrument storage.
The Fundraising Team is focusing on the Annual Giving campaign right now but will have a plan for the year submitted to administration in October.
Please contact Stephanie B. if you are interested in joining the team. email:
Do you still need to get your fingerprints done?
We are curious how many parents would like it if we brought back the Mobile Live Scan service that was present at registration days. Please email Community Liaison if you are interested in taking care of this here on Blue Oak campus.

(we have only heard from 3 parents on this, so still looking for a few more before we bring this service back)
