Dear Friends & Neighbors,
Good day from your favorite resident realtor team, Cherie & Larry Gross with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Florida Realty, a team and company you can always depend upon, "The Power of Two."
Is it hot enough? We think it is, but our ever present full time residents just keep on going. The 4th of July weekend was here and we were going to enjoy ourselves! Friday evening at Styr, once again, was "The Place to Be" here in Addison Reserve. Many members, their families, and guests, met to enjoy our club, with a little nosh & a little wine. On Saturday evening, in Styr, we were treated to a buffet of delicious appetizers, good enough for dinner. After consuming too many of those tasty delights, we were escorted into the main dining for dinner. Many members of our club were there as well plus quite a few reciprocals from Polo, Broken Sound, and others. Sunday evening was all about the birth of our great nation. There were balloons & flags throughout and many members dressed accordingly. The music was great & we danced till our legs hurt. Addison sure knows how to through a 4th of July party.
STARTING THE WEEKEND WITH SPIRIT!
Off to play pickleball....
SUNDAY EVENING WAS ADDISON'S 7/4 CELEBRATION!
Saturday morning, Addison had its 4th of July Tennis Round Robin Tournament, enjoyed by many tennis members and guests. It was hot, but our players prevailed and enjoyed a very competitive day. Lots of tennis and lots of water & cold towels for everyone.
As is customary during our 4th of July weekends here in Addison Reserve, our pool area became a central focus for members and their families. Poolside, a barbecue was served and enjoyed by many. The weather co-operated and our pool was busy from Friday till Tuesday, which happened to be The 4th of July. Great time for all ages.
People are passionate about the popular newish sport, pickleball, a fast-growing racket sport that's sometimes referred to as table tennis on steroids. For those of you who have not tried it yet and are unfamiliar with it, pickleball is a combination of tennis, racquetball, table tennis and badminton all rolled into one. It has become popular everywhere, but especially here in South Florida, where courts seem to be sprouting up wherever you look. As a matter of fact, pickleball has become so popular that an article, much of which I used to get my information for this paragraph, appeared on the front page of the Florida SunSentinel Newspaper on Monday, July 3, 2017. We are not sure if it's the camaraderie amongst the players, but people come out and fall in love with this game. There are no gherkins or dills involved! The sport's origin is traced back to 1965, when Joel Pritchard, a congressman from Washington state, and businessman Bill Bell used table tennis paddles to swat a plastic ball over a badminton net at a family barbecue. It is said that the family dog named Pickles, kept chasing after the ball, leading to the name. In the beginning, the sport was dominated by senior citizens because of the smaller sized court, underhanded serve and lighter ball, but now, pickleball is drawing more players of all ages. "I played once and that was it," said Kitcher, a former gymnast from England, who is now arranging pickleball excursions to resorts such as Club Med in Port St. Lucie. After CBS Sports Network televised the U.S. Open Pickleball Championsips, in April, the number is expected to increase to 3 million participants by 2018. Many tennis players also enjoy pickleball as well because they feel that it sharpens their tennis skills due to the non-stop volleying, soft-touch shots and rat-a-tat fast paced rallies. The objective in pickleball is for the singles player or doubles team to smack a ball over a net until they win the point when the opponent cannot return it.
Rules of Pickleball:
Games are played to 11 points, win by two. A match is the best of 3 sets and, similar to volleyball, points can be won only by the serving team. The server must serve underhanded and gets only one serve. Both players on the serving doubles team serve and can score points until they commit a fault or lose the rally. When the ball is served into the diagonal box, the receiver must let it bounce once and only once before returning and then the service team must let it bounce before returning. After that, the game moves very fast, so hold on to your hat! This game is also a great aerobic workout. If you are interested in losing weight or strengthening your heart muscle or just having fun, this is the game for you! Fast & Furious is out motto! Pickleball continues to pick up steam here at Addison Reserve. Even in this heat, members play every day and are looking forward to the build out where we were promised new permanent pickleball courts, thank you Mike McCarthy!
Tuesday was our actual day to celebrate 4th of July and what better way than to have a golf tournament. The day started with a full breakfast. Then 60 members started out for a competitive round of golf. The best ball format golf tournament gets everyone involved in almost every hole. The round was followed by an elaborate buffet lunch in our main dining room where winners celebrated and collected their golf shop credits. Another GREAT event at Addison! Of course, some of our members dressed in their best Red, White & Blue. "Happy Birthday America."
Our new expansion project has just begun. We will keep you informed weekly as the process of building continues. In our previous build-out, Mike McCarthy, our General Manage, envisioned a sports bar, Styr, that would set us apart from all other local country clubs, and he was right. Now, in bringing us a new and more upscale Esplanade area, closer to our main clubhouse, we will be better than ever, if you could imagine that. Let the work begin, we will all benefit from this project.
From one of our readers, we were sent some really cute & funny pictures that we thought we'd share with you all!

Meet Reese Berman, belonging to Larry & Randie Berman of Talavera Place.
Our dogs name is Reese. She was named after Reese chocolate peanut butter cups because when she was young she was very chocolate and peanut butter in color. We got her around the time of our older son Jason's graduation from middle school in 2001 when she was 6 weeks old. She is now almost 16 1/2 years old and has lived a great life bringing enjoyment to entire family. She is a border terrier and has a lot of small dog terrier traits, like being nosy and curious and feisty. As she has aged she has slowed down but still loves her life and being around the family though she does not run much anymore. she has been a great lap dog. Her weight has always been around 15 lbs. Her hearing and eyesight has been fading but she makes old age look good! Still loves to eat and snuggle and go for short walks.
REMEMBER
WE HAVE CHILDREN FURNITURE AVAILABLE FOR VISITING BABIES!
As for our Addison Reserve real estate update, we now have 42 homes on the market for sale. Our prices range from $399,000-$3,975,000. There are 14 estate homes and 28 zero lot line homes on the market, of which 34 have golf and 8 have sports memberships. The week of 4th
of July is traditionally a slow real estate week here in Addison and this year is no exception. We had several showings, but nothing new has materialized yet. That doesn't mean they are not coming back. We believe our buyers are out there and quite a few will return and buy. This week is about fireworks. Next week could be about contracts.
The summer is here, but the fall is just around the corner. Buyers are aware that if they want to enjoy what we have all winter, while escaping the cold, snowy north, they will be here very soon to look for their southern dream home. Addison is just that answer! If you are looking, look no further. Give us a call at 561-702-7828. We will show you every home, whether it's our listing or not. If you're thinking of listing, we will bring you more prospective buyers than any other realtors here. We are your most proactive Addison agents, always around, always working.
