The Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Forum provides an avenue for Oceanside Chamber members to learn about key issues relating to Oceanside's relationship with Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and the servicemembers serving on the base. This month's speaker will be Col Daniel Whitley providing an update on the following points:

4. RIMPAC 2022
5. Service-level challenges

SOCAL Business Spotlight: City of Oceanside Water Utilities | Wastewater Plant Operator
Meet Daniel Parker, Wastewater Plant Operator III, who tells us all about his role with the City of Oceanside Water Utilities Department. Reservoirs are maintained at levels to prevent any interruption of service to the public, and waterline repairs are made at all hours of the day or night. To be a wastewater plant operator, one must be detail-oriented and curious. The role requires the competencies of Checking, Examining, and Recording. This means that you are interested in entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/digital format, including adaptive devices and software. Daniel was able to start this job right out of high school. Learn more with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Water and Wastewater Competency Model.

City of Oceanside Community Forum
Farmland Conservation Easements

On the evening of July 13th, the City’s Planning Division will host a community forum on farmland conservation strategies, with emphasis on approaches to acquiring farmland conservation easements. The forum will include presentations from experts in the land conservation field, followed by an open house that will allow participants to engage directly with these experts. The forum is primarily meant to inform the implementation of a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction measure outlined in the City’s Climate Action Plan. This emissions reduction measure calls upon the City to leverage California’s Sustainable Agriculture Land Conservation (SALC) program to facilitate the acquisition of farmland conservation easements in South Morro Hills. The forum will also provide additional context for the South Morro Hills Community Plan.

Oceanside Planners Approve Plans for Tri-City’s New Psychiatric Facility
(Source: The Coast News Group) - After years of talks and planning, Tri-City Medical Center’s new psychiatric facility is one step closer to fruition. The city’s Planning Commission on June 13 unanimously approved development plans and a conditional use permit for the new 16-bed psychiatric care facility. The facility will be a single-story building approximately 14,400 square feet in size located in a quiet area away from the hospital’s main campus on a 3.77-acre lot in the northwest corner of the hospital’s overall 35.57-acre property in Oceanside.
