Action Item: Show Your Support for Beach Sand Replenishment & Retention

Council to Vote on Phase 2 of Oceanside Sand Nourishment and Retention Pilot program tonight!

The restoration and retention of sand on our beaches has been an important priority of the Oceanside Chamber for several years, and tonight’s City Council vote is a critical step in moving forward. On tonight’s agenda, the Council will have the opportunity to support Phase 2 of Oceanside Sand Nourishment and Retention Pilot program. Phase 2 will involve 1) development of a consistent sand nourishment program utilizing a sand bypass method, locally-sourced dredged sand, or other regional sand nourishment method; and 2) design of a hybrid sand retention structure that mimics natural retention processes, such as those provided by a low relief reef or headland. Our friends at Save Oceanside Sand have created an email template to send a support letter to Council. You can find a link to the template in their enewsletter here… Oceanside Beaches Need Your Help! (sosoceanside.com). Please take a minute to register your support today!

CalChamber FREE MCLE Course on PAGA Landscape

On January 31, 2023, at 10 a.m., a virtual MCLE course hosted by the California Chamber of Commerce, in coordination with the Stop Small Business Shakedowns committee and Fisher Phillips LLP, will look at businesses’ Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) liability landscape in 2023 and beyond.

This course will specifically focus on the impact PAGA has had on California businesses and the landscape for the next year. PAGA, which has provided a litigation tool for attorneys to file costly lawsuits against California employers to recover significant penalties for alleged Labor Code violations, has forced businesses to settle more than $8 billion collectively in just the last seven years — and that number likely will double over the next five. These settlements primarily benefit attorneys, leaving little financial recovery for employees.

So imagine my surprise when I received an official-looking renewal form in the mail today. Form 501-LLC was my California Limited Liability company biennial order form, and it came a year early."

Don’t Fall Victim to Unscrupulous Contractors

(Source: By District Attorney Summer Stephan) - Are you thinking about having work done on your home that will cost more than $500 in labor and materials? If so, you should take precautions before hiring a contractor. Any person providing home improvements or repairs above the $500 handyman exception is required to have a state issued license from the Contractors State License Board (CSLB). The District Attorney’s Office prosecutes criminal violations of the contractors’ laws including unlicensed contractors, unauthorized use of someone else’s license number, requesting more than a 10% deposit, failure to have workers’ compensation insurance and even theft for failing to deliver services or materials that were paid for by the homeowner.
