RE:BEACH is a Coastal Resilience Competition bringing together 3 design teams from around the world to develop innovative sand retention pilot projects for the City of Oceanside. At the core of RE:BEACH is a global design competition in search of the most innovative, multi-beneficial, and feasible solutions to preserve sandy beaches in Oceanside. A global call to action was released in spring 2023, inviting landscape architecture and engineering firms from across the world to apply to participate in RE:BEACH Oceanside. A Jury and Advisory Panel composed of local, state, and national experts was formed early on and helped in making the ultimate decision on the finalists, based on experience, proposed approach and track record of delivering innovative solutions. cards!

Oceanside Leadership Academy Fall 2023 Now Accepting Applications!
From September 9th to November 2nd 2023, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce will conduct weekly Leadership Academy sessions. In our opening session participants will hear from some of our top local leaders regarding their leadership styles and philosophies, how they have led through times of crisis, and what it takes to lead in their respective sectors.
Subsequent sessions will feature deeper dives into leadership from experts in various sectors including military, municipal government, tourism/hospitality, entrepreneurship, health care, non-profits and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM).

The Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF) was founded in 1989 to support and celebrate the visual, performing and cultural arts in Oceanside and surrounding communities. To support a full creative life for all, Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation commits to championing policies and practices of cultural equity that empower a just, inclusive, and equitable community.
Over the years, OCAF has continued to elevate their services and productions. In 1992, the search began for a venue that would be a “jewel of artistic importance” and home for the Oceanside Museum of Art. Administration of the museum’s fundraising and creation was turned over to OCAF.

Northbound I-5 Weekend Ramp Closure at Las Flores Drive and EB 78 Connector Closure
Starting Friday, August 25, Caltrans and SANDAG Build NCC crews will conduct a planned closure of an on-ramp and a freeway connector in the cities of Carlsbad and Oceanside.
The closure of the northbound Las Flores on-ramp will begin Friday, August 25 at 9 p.m. and it will be reopened at 5 a.m. on Monday, August 28. Motorists can detour using southbound I-5 to Carlsbad Village Drive and then enter northbound I-5. This closure will allow crews to safely reconfigure the on-ramp within one weekend, rather than imposing closures over a period of months.

Oceanside's Mary Matava Named 2022 Farmer of the Year
San Diego County Farm Bureau (SDCFB) has named Mary Matava of Oceanside, CA as SDCFB’s 2022 Farmer of the Year. Matava has more than 40 years of experience assessing the agronomic suitability of Southern California soils and over 25 years of manufacturing organic soil amendments used by farmers throughout Southern California. Matava’s professional experiences have contributed to her success in farming and the large impact she has had volunteering with a wide range of nonprofit organizations in agriculture.

Boots to Business Reboot - Entrepreneurship Training Program for Veterans and Military Spouses

Boots to Business (B2B) is an entrepreneurial education and training program offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA. The course provides an overview of entrepreneurship and applicable business ownership fundamentals. Veterans of all eras, Active Duty Service members (including National Guard and Reserve), and spouses are eligible to participate. During Reboot, participants are introduced to the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to launch a business, including steps for developing business concepts, how to develop a business plan, and information on SBA resources available to help. This program is facilitated by subject matter experts from the SBA and their extensive network of skilled business advisors.

California’s 2024 Minimum Wage Increases to $16 Per Hour
(Source: CalChamber) - On Monday, July 31, the California Department of Finance Director Joe Stephenshaw officially certified that beginning January 1, 2024, California’s minimum wage will increase from $15.50 per hour to $16 per hour for all employers, regardless of size.
Per California’s Labor Code, once the state’s minimum wage reaches $15 per hour — which already has occurred, as the current minimum wage is $15.50 per hour — the California Director of Finance must determine on or before August 1 of each year whether to adjust the minimum wage for inflation and, if so, calculate the increase.

Identity Theft Can Happen to Anyone, How to Prevent It
(Source: District Attorney Summer Stephan) - Scams come in every variety and target every segment of the population. From the grandparent scam to the get rich quick ploy, the common thread in each scenario is someone is faking their identity or trying to steal yours.
In San Diego County, our office prosecuted 2,800 cases involving some form of identity theft over the last five years. But as you’ve heard from me before on this topic, many cases go unreported because victims are ashamed of getting duped, especially senior citizens. San Diego County alone sees more than 1,000 elderly victims get defrauded each year losing an estimated $20 to $30 million to scams.
