Featured Session
Walk a Mile in Their Shoes: The Children's Counsel Experiential Learning Module
Youth involved in the child welfare or juvenile justice court process frequently travel through myriad public systems. Furthermore, many of these youth have experienced high levels of trauma, violence, instability, and loss. This session uses experiential learning to increase understanding and awareness. Using integrative teaching and simulations, we will explore what it is like to be a young person with court involvement. We will discuss best practices in child advocacy models and examine methods for screening, intake, and representation, with a focus on the experience of youth moving through various services and systems.
This is an interactive session which will involve group discussions and moving about the room. Space is limited! Please RSVP for this session

The NACC Every Kid Needs a Family Workgroup has met twice and will continue to meet monthly. NACC is committed to ensuring that attorneys have the tools they need to advocate for children to remain in families and in family settings. NACC is working in partnership with the Annie E Casey Foundation to continue to assess the gaps in resources and to create those resources when necessary. Stay tuned for updates on the workgroup as we continue to gather information and formulate new tools.
NACC’s policy department wants to hear from you! NACC is seeking short stories/anecdotes from attorneys and youth in foster care (or formerly in foster care) about how having an attorney made a difference in a child’s life and case. If you are an attorney and have a case in which your specialized legal skill, experience and knowledge made a difference, please email Brooke Silverthorn, Policy and Advocacy Director at
