Jimmy Miller's Bracket Breakfast for Piedmont CASA
Thank you all for joining us bright and early Monday morning to tip off March Madness! As always, the banter between John Grisham and Macon Gunter set the perfect tone for lively panel discussions. Our newcomers, Alex Peavey and Chris Cillizza, jumped right in like they had been participating for years, and Caroline Darney brought a wealth of knowledge and perspective to the discussion. One of the morning’s highlights was Jimmy Miller’s magic trick—the look on Rick and Sterling’s faces was absolutely priceless. How did he do that?! And Monday was only the beginning - scroll down for more info about the Swish and Dish Raffle and Hoops for Hope.
Big thanks to everyone who participated - your support of Piedmont CASA is amazing!
Swish and Dish Raffle For $40, you could win over $1500 in gift cards to 24 area restaurants!
The BB Adventure is not over! With one raffle ticket, you could win some of the best dining experiences around, everything from a casual bite to a special night out. Raffle tickets are $40 each or 3 for $100. All proceeds benefit the children and youth we serve - hundreds each year.
Long before the weather cleared when we were still waiting out freezing temperatures and brown earth, I began thinking of the expression “Sow Good Seeds.” I am someone who likes to start the new year with a word or phrase to capture what I envision for the year ahead.
There are thirteen advocates in the class - and almost all of our localities are represented! They are bringing a big range of work experience to the table: military, corporate, education, and nonprofit. Several have been foster parents. One of the things we love about our Advocates is the broad range of backgrounds, each bringing fresh, new insights to our work.

With the rising number of cases, more children need CASA Advocates. So last month, Virginia Network CASA leaders met at the General Assembly in Richmond to request an increase to $4 million in State General Funds - which was successful. Both the House and Senate put it in their budgets. Next step: a special budget session in April. L-R: Kate Duvall of PCASA, Jeannine Panzera of Henrico CASA, and Patterson Rogers of Chesterfield CASA.
Foster: The CASA Cat Reading Tour
On March 2, Kari Joyner read from her book, Foster: The CASA Cat at the Madison Primary School. It was part of the "Read Across America" initiative.
On March 4, Kari introduced Foster: The CASA Cat to more children at a Fluvanna Friends of the Library reading event.
