A Message from our Executive Director

As the summer comes to an end, I want to reflect back on all the fun we had at the Harford Center. Summer is a time to relax, reenergize, and reflect. For many of you, the fall signifies the beginning of the school year, new initiatives, and a change in pace. I hope that you can hang onto some of that “summer” feeling. Personally, I love the fall as a time of transition. At the Harford Center, we gear up in the fall for our big event- our Annual Spooky Soirée. If you haven’t had a chance to attend this “fun”raiser, I highly encourage you to buy tickets (see details in the Advocate). This event is a celebration of the Harford Center and an opportunity for us to raise funds to continue our mission. The mission of the Harford Center is our guidepost for all that we do.  From the staff to the Board of Directors, we are committed to providing the highest quality service that is individually tailored to meet the needs of all our participants. At the heart of our mission is CHOICE! I want to use this forum to talk about choice. It is our purpose to create an environment that allows people (participants, staff, volunteers) to choose how they spend their time when at the Harford Center. Staff are carefully matched based on their skills to work with participants that they are best able to support. Further, participants are asked everyday how they want to spend their time. We don’t use a “cookie-cutter” approach to programming. Every day is different and driven by the choices of the participants. Having choice in one’s life is a critical component to feeling satisfied and self-fulfilled.

I wish everyone a great end of summer and beginning of a new season.
