Message from the Dean

In just a few weeks, we will proudly celebrate the graduation of another outstanding class of engineering students. As part of this milestone, many graduates will participate in the Order of the Engineer ceremony, taking an oath to uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and service in the engineering profession. We are excited to welcome them into the NMSU community of engineers and look forward to all they will accomplish.

For those considering the next steps in their professional journey, the College of Engineering offers professional master’s degrees designed for flexibility and career advancement, which can be pursued part-time or full-time. Whether you are a recent graduate or a working professional looking to build new skills, you can apply and start when the time is right for you.

This is also a time of transformation for our college facilities. With the expansion of the New Mexico Mutual Metal Additive Manufacturing Center and the replacement of the old Thomas and Brown Hall, we are making room for modern spaces that will foster innovation, collaboration, and hands-on learning.

These projects represent our ongoing commitment to providing students with the best possible learning environment to grow and succeed. Thank you all for being part of the exciting momentum at NMSU Engineering.

Trees for Tortugas one of several AWL community projects

With engineering skills, heart and lots of sweat equity, NMSU's Aggies Without Limits students and members of the Pueblo of Tortugas toiled side-by-side to install 900 feet of waterline, plant and fertilize 27 trees, as well as groom five older trees around the community’s baseball field.

After winning the local Hult Prize competition, Arid Elements advanced to the national round of this globally renowned social entrepreneurship challenge. Members Rebekah Pase, Alvin Birmingham-Monroe, Laney Matanis, and Joseph Reyes pitched their venture. Learn more here!

NMSU's calling All Aggies campaign garners recognition

The campaign in fall 2024 yielded 48 volunteers from across campus, including Rick Marlatt, Graduate School and International Affairs associate dean and professor, and Jimi Ickes, College of Engineering program operations director.

NMSU’s spring 2025 Outstanding Graduates honored for scholarship, service, leadership

The NMSU Foundation Alumni Committee announced the engineering recipients of the prestigious Outstanding Graduate Award for the Spring 2025 semester. The Engineering award winners are Haylee Viramontes and Emilia Marmolejo. Read more here!

NMSU earns two 2025 Carnegie classifications

NMSU has earned two new classifications by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education that reflect the university’s commitment to quality education and student success. NMSU has earned the 2025 Institutional Classification and the 2025 Student Access and Earnings Classification. Read more here.

NMSU hosts inauguration for new president

NMSU celebrated the inauguration of its 32nd president, Valerio Ferme, during a public ceremony on the Las Cruces campus last month. Ferme’s investiture took place in the third-floor ballrooms of Corbett Center Student Union. The event featured a breakfast and student-led music and dance performances.
