Message from the Dean

Dear Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni, and Friends,

Spring is always a great time in the College of Engineering, and this year was no exception. We had a fantastic time celebrating Engineers Week last month, with events that brought energy, creativity, and a strong sense of community across our college. It was great to see so many students, faculty, staff, and partners come together to celebrate what it means to be an engineer.

I'd also like to extend my sincere thanks to the members of the Dean's Advisory Council for their continued support and engagement. A special thank you to Mr. Patrick Garcia for his leadership and service as chair over the past two years. His contributions have made a meaningful impact on our college.

Your dedication and hard work are what drive our success every day. As we look ahead, we're excited for what's to come and the continued momentum across the College.

NMSU unveils Cummins engine gift during Engineers Week celebrations

The 4,000-pound engine, donated by Cummins Inc., will serve as a hands-on learning tool for students in the College of Engineering, said Samah Ben Ayed, professor and interim associate department head of Engineering Technology and Survey Engineering. Learn more here!

NMSU associate dean named technical program co-chair for international conference

Satyajayant “Jay” Misra, associate dean of research in the College of Engineering, has been appointed Technical Program Committee co-chair for the IEEE Conference on Computer Communications.

ECE assistant professor receives international laser education award

Miranda van Iersel, an assistant professor in the Klipsch School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Gentec-EO Laser Lab Awards, an international recognition that supports hands-on optics and photonics education.

State invests up to $138 million in projects and facilities across NMSU system

The NMSU system will receive more than $57 million in special appropriations, capital projects and base funding, thanks to legislation signed this week by New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.

NMSU approves full-time tuition coverage for graduate assistants

NMSU announced full-time tuition coverage for its graduate assistant workforce beginning with the fall 2026 semester, following ratification by the Board of Regents of a memorandum of agreement between the university and the union representing graduate assistants. Learn more here!

NMSU joins UNM on $4 million NSF grant to design high-tech infrastructure

Boris Kiefer, NMSU physics professor, is a co-PI on a project to turn fundamental quantum science into practical technologies that could potentially enable new kinds of computing for certain problems and reduce the high energy costs associated with other quantum hardware systems. Learn more here!

Alumni Pond renovation enters construction phase at NMSU

The renovation is being completed in partnership with local contractor Crosstown Construction, with project design led by local designers Molzen-Corbin & Associates. During construction, the area surrounding Alumni Pond will remain an active construction zone. Learn more!
