Message from the Dean

Welcome back for the spring semester. I hope you had time over the break to rest, recharge yourselves, and spend time with friends and family. As we begin a new term, it’s great to see campus active again and to look ahead to what promises to be a busy and impactful semester for the College of Engineering.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve marked several important milestones, including the Thomas & Brown topping-off event, recognizing another important construction milestone, and continued progress on the project. I’m also pleased to recognize Dr. Muhammad Ayoub from the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, who received the Research Recognition Award at this semester’s convocation.

David Jáuregui, Ph.D.

Interim Dean

In addition, Dr. Francisco Torres Herrador and Professor John Tapia were selected as the college recipients of the Patricia Christmore Teaching Award and the Donald Roush Teaching Award, respectively. This issue also includes updates on the Civil and Environmental Engineering department name change and early planning efforts for Engineering Week, with additional details to come.

Looking ahead, the College of Engineering will be well represented at NMSU Day on February 9, alongside the New Mexico Produced Water Research Consortium (NMPWRC), showcasing the reach and impact of our academic programs, research, and engagement across the state. We are also preparing for upcoming events, including NMTSA, the Bromilow Lecture, and our annual Faculty and Staff Awards. The upcoming Dean’s Advisory Council meeting will include updates on NMPWRC and the Carlsbad Environmental Monitoring & Research Center (CEMRC), highlighting how these statewide assets advance our R1 research mission while also delivering meaningful impact to communities across New Mexico. I am grateful for the work taking place across the college and look forward to a strong spring semester together.
