The Senior Lifestyle Expo is the largest annual Expo in the Midwest for older adults. Hosted by AgeGuide Northeastern Illinois, the Senior Lifestyle Expo was created to help educate and empower older adults on their aging journey.
For the past 26 years, AgeGuide has focused on offering older adults an annual opportunity to learn, interact and enjoy all the resources that are available to them right in their community.

This year’s Expo will offer a variety of live/taped seminars, town halls with AARP, workshops, entertainment, virtual exhibit spaces and more. With this virtual platform, sponsors and exhibitors can showcase products and services in a Virtual Exhibit Hall.

There will be a Tele-Town Hall on Tuesday at 10 AM hosted and sponsored by AARP. The Town Hall will feature Paula Basta, Director of the Illinois Department on Aging, Bob Gallo, State Director for AARP and Marla Fronczak, CEO of AgeGuide. Join us for an in depth conversation on issues concerning older adults. Call 1-866-383-2767 to listen live!

Protect Yourself & Others during National Immunization Awareness Month
August is known as National Immunization Awareness Month. According to many health providers, public health professionals, and governmental health agencies, there is no preventive health measure that is more important than vaccination. The World Health Organization (WHO) endorses vaccines as an effective method to prevent and control several different infectious diseases. This month serves as a crucial opportunity to highlight the importance of vaccination, especially within older adults, caregivers, and their families.

AgeGuide Advocacy Corner
Not to be outdone by this past week’s extreme weather, Congress had a whirlwind week. The Senate passed a $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act on Tuesday. Then, they proceeded to work through the night in a high-stakes “vote-a-rama” to pass a $3.5 trillion budget resolution.

Interesting Additional Resources
Relationships with people you know only superficially can help develop a sense of belonging and provide motivation to engage in activities. Research has found that older adults who have a broad array of “weak” as well as “close” ties enjoy better physical and psychological well-being and live longer than people with less diverse social networks. Read more on Restoring a Sense of Belonging.
One way you can restore your own sense of belonging is to get connected with GetSetUp, an online interactive community for older adults. GetSetUp allows older adults the opportunity to take virtual classes of different interests, skills and social activities and grow their array of social connections. Register today!
