The Aging Report
Celebrating Residents' Rights Month
Residents’ Rights Month celebrates residents of long-term care facilities, assisted living, retirement communities and people receiving supportive services in their home. This month dedicated to Residents' Rights is an opportunity to promote their dignity, respect, and overall value and protect their rights. We encourage those living in long-term care facilities to learn about and exercise their rights through self-advocacy.

Protect Yourself This Flu Season
Now is the perfect time to get your flu vaccine! Adults 65 years and older are at high risk of serious complications from influenza (flu), especially if individuals are immunocompromised or have underlying health conditions. Visit your doctor or your local pharmacy to inquire about receiving the flu vaccine. According to CDC recommendations, almost everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every year by the end of October.

Planning for Your 2022
Medicare Coverage
Medicare Open Enrollment starts October 15th and Medicare beneficiaries have until December 7th to review their health coverage options and make changes that will take effect on January 1, 2022. If you are happy with your current coverage, you do not have to make any changes but taking the time to explore your options could save you money.
Sometimes your health plans change and it isn't clear how those changes will affect the health care you receive for the coming year. Open Enrollment is your chance to review any changes in coverage or to get help understanding what these changes will mean for you in 2022.

How Savvy Students Create
Techy Seniors
Ever feel frustrated with your technology? Struggle to get an app to work? Imagine how first-time users feel when they get their new tablet from AgeGuide’s Tablets to Seniors Program.  To help ease these older adults into the nuts and bolts of tablet usage, AgeGuide developed a unique partnership with some tech savvy Hersher High School student volunteers.
These students provide one-on-one tablet support to participants in an inter-generational collaboration that benefits both the students and older adults. The students, under the guidance of Jessica Brinkman, the Hersher High librarian, are gaining life skills and fulfilling their community service requirements while learning the value of technology and lifelong learning from their new older friends. The tablet recipients love working and interacting with the students and have become quite tech savvy themselves. Thank you Hersher High School for making this partnership a reality!
AgeGuide Advocacy Corner
