The Aging Report
Annual Meeting
The Agency on Aging Northeastern Illinois held its 44th Annual Meeting on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton. After the Board of Directors and Advisory Council elections, appointments and recognitions, guests enjoyed remarks from the Executive Director, Marla Fronczak and featured speaker, Eric Thurman.

Eric spoke with guests about "How to Thrive in the Third Season of Life". The average American is living longer than previous generations. As baby boomers retire, the number of older Americans is soaring. Eric emphasized enriching 5 key areas of life - body, mind, relationships, finances and the soul. Fine tuning these areas helps older adults find enrichment in their third season of life.

The Annual Meeting was an extra special event this year which concluded with a delicious lunch prepared by one of our own Holiday Meals on Wheels Celebrity Chefs, Alan Pirhofer. We would like to thank everyone who attended and supported the Agency on Aging throughout the year!

We are always grateful for this yearly opportunity to come together and enjoy a day with those who support our seniors and our agency's mission!
Listening Sessions
The Agency on Aging completed a series of four Listening Sessions to gain input from Grantees and Community Leaders on how the Agency can improve and what they should focus on for the future.

Over 100 community leaders participated from the health, mental health, senior living, municipal and county government, business, and nutrition sectors to discuss the impending needs of seniors in communities and ways to collaborate more effectively to address them.

Engage at Every Age
Every May, the Administration on Aging leads our nation in observing Older Americans Month.

For 55 years, Older Americans Month has been celebrated to recognize older Americans and their contributions to their communities.

Engage at Every Age, the theme this year, emphasizes that you are never too old to participate in activities that enrich your life. It also celebrates the many ways in which older adults make a difference in their community.
Kane Senior Council and Catholic Charities Step Up to Deliver
Meals to Seniors
The first of March saw a change in nutrition providers in both Kane and McHenry Counties. Earlier this year, Salvation Army discontinued the Golden Diners program after 43 years of service. The Agency on Aging Northeastern Illinois worked with nutrition providers in adjacent counties to provide service in Kane and McHenry counties. DuPage Senior Citizens Council, doing business as Kane Senior Council, stepped in to provide meals in adjacent Kane County. Likewise, Catholic Charities Lake County Senior Services stepped in to provide the nutrition program in adjacent McHenry County.

Providing meals to those home bound clients in most need is the first priority as both organizations work to establish delivery networks comprised of both staff and volunteers.

Community Dining sites in McHenry County are operating in Woodstock, Marengo, and Johnsburg.  Community Dining sites in Kane County are operating in Aurora and Elgin with additional sites scheduled to reopen during the summer.

Both provider agencies are in need of volunteers to deliver meals. For more information on volunteer opportunities, contact Catholic Charities or Kane Senior Council . Applicants for part-time drivers using their personal vehicles are
also being sought in McHenry County. If interested, please contact Catholic Charities .

The Agency on Aging greatly appreciates the diligent work of Kane Senior Council and Catholic Charities, and the assistance of Senior Services Associates in this transition.
