Celebrate Senior Nutrition Month: Supporting Healthy Aging

March is National Nutrition Month, a time to recognize the importance of making informed food choices and maintaining healthy eating habits. For older adults, good nutrition is essential for managing chronic health conditions, maintaining strength and mobility, and enhancing overall well-being.


AgeGuide plays a crucial role in ensuring that older adults have access to nutritious meals through its Senior Nutrition Programs, which provide both meal access and opportunities for social engagement.

As we age, our bodies require different nutrients to maintain energy levels, bone health, and cognitive function. However, many older adults face challenges such as limited mobility, financial constraints, or social isolation, making it difficult to access healthy meals.

Participation in the Caregiving Caucus Breakfast

On February 26, 2025, AgeGuide's CEO, Marla Fronczak, and Advocacy Manager, Gretchen Knowlton, attended the Caregiving Caucus Breakfast in Springfield, IL. Hosted by AARP Illinois and the Illinois Family Caregiver Coalition, this event convened legislators and advocates to discuss policies supporting family caregivers. The breakfast served as a platform to highlight the challenges caregivers face and to strategize on advancing supportive legislation.

Navigating Tax Season: Essential Tips for Older Adults and Aging Professionals

Tax season can feel overwhelming, but with the right resources and knowledge, older adults and those who support them can navigate it smoothly. Understanding available tax benefits, avoiding scams, and utilizing free assistance programs can help make the process easier.


Tax Benefits for Older Adults

Older adults may qualify for several tax benefits. Those aged 65 and older can claim a higher standard deduction, reducing taxable income. Some individuals may also be eligible for the Credit for the Elderly or Disabled, providing additional tax relief. Additionally, medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of adjusted gross income can be deducted if itemized, helping offset healthcare costs.
