In an exciting new development, AgeGuide in partnership with Community Nutrition Network and Senior Services Association (CNN), is happy to announce the expansion of the Dine Around Town Program. The expansion includes Urban Kitchen in Crest Hill and Honeybella Cafe in Wauconda.

This program aims to provide older adults with more dining options, promoting social engagement and nutritional well-being.

Do you know a grandparent or older adult relative raising a child or caring for an adult with disabilities? If so, the Kinship Family program can help!

Through grants from the Older Americans Act and the State of Illinois, AgeGuide’s network partners provide valuable support for kinship families through case management, respite services, financial assistance, and mental health support.   

On  August 1, the Senate Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) Subcommittee released the FY 2025 appropriations report with the funding numbers for all Older Americans Act (OAA) programs. Our top OAA priorities did not receive the increases desired; however, we are still happy to report that the Senate did not propose any funding cuts to these programs, with most programs mirroring FY 2024 funding levels.  

Thankfully, due to the aging network’s advocacy efforts, the Senate did not adopt the House’s proposed cuts. The proposal included funding for (or avoided cuts to) Title III C1 and C2 nutrition programs, Title V, the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), and Adult Protective Services. 

AgeGuide is thrilled to announce that its podcast, The Age Guide: Perspectives on the Aging Journey, received a 2024 Aging Achievement Award from USAging, one of the highest honors presented by the association to its members. The Age Guide, which is a monthly podcast hosted by AgeGuide Northeastern Illinois, was among 22 local aging initiatives to receive Achievement honors during USAging’s 49th Annual Conference and Tradeshow, July 8-11 in Tampa, FL. An additional 16 agencies receive Innovations Awards.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life. We know that busy schedules can sometimes impact your ability to attend important appointments and receive routine vaccinations.
