The Aging Report
Tips for Making the
Best of the Holidays
As many of us are beginning to gather with friends and family once again, it is still important to make a conscious effort to reach out and stay connected during the holiday season. This is important for everyone, but especially older adults. With a little effort and some creativity, staying connected, even when physically apart, can be fun and enjoyable.

Join AgeGuide and Make Room at The Table in sharing these tips so that we can all reach out to promote holiday connections within older adults.

AgeGuide's E-Learning Channel, GetSetUp, has a variety of holiday classes throughout the month of December for older adults to enjoy. Attend classes with like-minded individuals on a wide range of topics including holiday bell choirs, social hours, holiday gifting and more. This program is free for older adults in AgeGuide's 8-county service area!

Get Your COVID-19 Booster Just in Time for the Holidays!
The Holiday Season is right around the corner! This year, the vaccine makes it possible for families and friends to safely gather in celebration. Authorized booster doses for all three COVID-19 vaccines are now available near you. The CDC announced that individuals can get both the flu shot and the COVID-19 shot at the same time. There is no need to wait in-between each vaccine.

National Influenza
Vaccination Week
The week of December 5-11, 2021 is known as National Influenza Vaccination Week (or Flu Awareness Week) when we highlight the importance of getting vaccinated against the flu.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that everyone 6 months or older receive the flu vaccine every year. They also announced that individuals can get both the flu shot and the COVID-19 shot at the same time. There is no need to wait in-between each vaccine.
AgeGuide strongly recommends that those who are eligible receive their flu vaccine by visiting their primary care doctor or local pharmacy. There is still time to get your flu vaccine in preparation for the upcoming holidays. Here are just some of the many benefits to getting the flu vaccine:
  • Provides protection and immunity to prevent you from getting infected with the influenza virus.
  • If you do get sick with the flu, severity of illness is likely to be reduced.
  • Reduces the risk of flu-associated hospitalization.
  • Protect those around you.

AgeGuide Advocacy Corner
At AgeGuide, we use our role as advocates for older adults to promote and elevate policies and programs that support older adults and their caregivers and effectively address the needs of an aging America.

‘Twas the night before shutdown and all through the House (and Senate) every civil servant remained stirring as a crisis was doused. Read the last Advocacy Update of the year on the continuing resolution and how it impacts aging advocacy.
