Community Partners at Work
for Older Adults
This week, AgeGuide received the first of three shipments of FEMA emergency meals for our Home Delivered Meal clients. We were fortunate to be connected to Joe Foley with
Corporate Disk Company
in McHenry by Carole Peters with
United Way of Greater McHenry County
.
Mr. Foley agreed to not only take in the delivery of meals, but also store and ship 55,000 meals directly to our home delivered meal clients across our eight counties.
During the pandemic, any older adult, age 60 or older, who is temporarily home-bound is eligible to receive a home delivered meal, regardless of income and assets. AgeGuide will also have additional meals to cover surplus clients that have accessed services because of the COVID-19 pandemic and will be able to offer meals to people in emergency situations.
We cannot thank Corporate Disk Company enough for assisting us and providing so much support to AgeGuide and our home delivered meals clients during this difficult time!

World Elder Abuse
Awareness Day
On June 15th, we observed World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), which is a day that focuses global attention on the problem of physical, financial and emotional abuse of older adults. WEAAD aims to provide an opportunity for communities to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect and raise awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect. This observance serves as a call-to-action for individuals, organizations and communities to raise awareness about elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Supporting LGBT+
Older Adults
Each June, Pride Month celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning+ (LGBTQ+) community and the impact LGBTQ+ individuals have had on history. AgeGuide’s mission is to empower all older adults and caregivers to remain independent, connected and to age well, including LGBTQ+ older adults and their caregivers.
AgeGuide is proud to share the resources below to support the Aging Network’s ongoing efforts to create welcoming and affirming environments that will help LGBTQ+ individuals feel safe and accepted and offer services and resources to support their health, well-being and social connectedness in the communities where they live.

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that a landmark federal civil rights law from the 1960s protects gay and transgender workers, a watershed ruling for LGBTQ rights written by one of the court’s most conservative justices.
