Letterhead of the Bishop of New York

October 17, 2023

Dear Friends,

In the letter we sent to the diocese on the weekend, Bishops Shin, Glasspool and I suggested that Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, an institution operated by the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem (not, as has been falsely stated by some news organizations, the Baptist Church), would be an appropriate place to make monetary donations during the current crisis in Israel. Today, the hospital was bombed. We would suggest that this does not lessen the importance of contributing to their work, but increases it, as their work has never been more needed. We will know more about the damage to the hospital and loss of life in the days to come. The two most immediate Episcopal institutions doing the work of our church in the Holy Land are the American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem (through which one may give to support the Ahli Arab Hospital) and Episcopal Relief and Development. We would restate the position of these organizations, which is that they take no political position in the Holy Land, and their ministrations are offered across the different religions of the country. When New York suffered it's terrible terrorist attack in 2001 money and aid poured in to our city and our church from across the nation and world. May God grace is with faith and generosity in these hard days now.
