The Chamber of Commerce has attended two events with the Alamogordo Public School System within the last week as they prepare to roll into the 2019-2020 school year and curriculum. The first event was to welcome the 89 new teachers and 5 new administrators recently hired into the APS district. The second was all 800 plus teachers in what was almost a pep rally in Tiger Pit on the morning of the 5 ^th. What we witnessed is nothing short of amazing, the enthusiasm is off the charts and contagious.

  We, as a community, had better appreciate the changes we are seeing in our School System because they will almost single handedly control our future and destiny. This community lost sight of their importance and contact with those in control in the last few years and the results were almost catastrophic. Through those class rooms will pass 100% of this community’s future. Our schools will determine the quality of work force that will support our growth and dictate if outside business choose to call Alamogordo home. We at the Chamber of Commerce talk a great deal about a transformation in our community, but without a quality public education in place and teachers and administrators that are passionate about what they do…it is all just idle chatter.

  The Chamber of Commerce urges every business and every citizen in this community to get involved at some level with our Public Schools. The changes we are witnessing are radical, and needed to be. Jerrett Perry and his team are making the tough choices, choices that are mandatory when one comes from the bottom of the pile. Support, involvement, and a demand for excellence from all of us…
