Dear Friends,

It's cold! After Anchorage spent weeks huddled through a long cold snap, the forecast promises us brighter, more temperate days ahead. I hope that everyone takes advantage of tropical 20-degree days to finally return outdoors, and recenter with the natural world.

Beginning February 13, the Communications Workgroup will resume monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month between 1-2pm. If you're interested in joining, please email Communications Workgroup Weaver Faith Ozer Green: [email protected]. The group continues to work on improving The Alliance's internal and external communications, and one of their first activities will be preparing guidelines for and setting up The Alliance's Facebook page.

As a reminder, the Youth Underage Alcohol Use Prevention Campaign kicked off in early January, and you might be seeing or hearing the various creative materials being distributed on media channels throughout the state. We're also preparing a campaign outreach toolkit for use in local communities. A campaign outreach debriefing will be hosted at the upcoming Strategic Planning Session in early March.

There are several new training opportunities coming up, as well as some important all-Alliance meetings. Activities and meetings coming up:

  • February 15: Alliance Open-Space Sessions. During this event, we will host break-out sessions for Alliance members to discuss the upcoming Strategic Planning Session, strategies for utilizing mini access to care grants, and the ongoing social norms campaign.

  • March 5-6: Alliance Strategic Planning Session, to be hosted both virtually and in-person. Please stay tuned for more details regarding this event's location and times. We expect to have an event registration link ready for sharing in about a week's time, and will send an invitation to all Alliance members via email.
Thanks to all of you for the work you do!
Warm wishes,
Marlene
We will always do our best to publish upcoming events in a timely, regular manner for our newsletter subscribers. We also keep an event calendar through the Recover Alaska website that allows our partners a secondary means of sharing their event news with our community. We welcome your submissions!

About The Alliance

The Alliance is a collaborative effort of multiple and diverse partners across Alaska who recognize the impacts of alcohol misuse on individuals and communities. We are personally and professionally committed to working together to address this complex problem in our state.

Our primary goal is to connect and engage communities as partners — increasing protective factors, reducing risk factors, and changing social norms — to prevent underage alcohol use and eliminate adult misuse in Alaska.

  • The Data and Learning Workgroup will be supporting data equity conversations and practices.
  • The Evaluation and Learning Workgroup is building out quarterly measures for the network to support grant reporting but also to increase real-time evaluation across the network so we can track and respond to improvement needs more frequently.
  • The Strategy and Design Workgroup builds structures and processes for the network to work in alignment with our values and theory of change.

You are welcome to reach out with questions about those workgroups or to ask to join any of them.
