Recover Alaska Applauds U.S. Surgeon General’s Call for Cancer Warnings on Alcohol Labels
This initiative represents a significant step forward in increasing public awareness of the well-documented link between alcohol consumption and various forms of cancer.
“Alaskans deserve to have clear and accurate information about the risks associated with alcohol consumption,” said Tiffany Hall, CEO of Recover Alaska. “Adding cancer warnings to alcohol labels is a vital public health measure that can empower individuals to make informed choices for themselves and their families.”
Research has consistently demonstrated that alcohol consumption is a risk factor for at least seven types of cancer, including breast, liver, and colon cancer. Recover Alaska supported Rep. Andrew Gray when he introduced House Bill 298, “The Alcoholic Beverages and Cancer Act,” a first-of-its-kind bill to require all alcohol retailers in the state to post cancer warning signs at the point-of-sale stating: “Alcohol use can cause cancer, including breast and colon cancers.”
“By placing clear warnings on alcohol products, we can not only educate but also foster an environment where reducing alcohol consumption becomes a collective priority,” added Rep. Andrew Gray, “This is a chance for policymakers, health organizations, and industry leaders to come together in support of a healthier future.” LEARN MORE HERE.
