Growth and Success of the Myriad Gardens
As a beautiful oasis in the Central Business District, the Myriad Botanical Gardens is regularly filled with visitors of all ages who are enjoying a range of activities and programs throughout the park.

Myriad Gardens Seasonal Plaza

Growth
Since its grand reopening in the fall of 2011, the Myriad Gardens Foundation has greatly increased the programs and offerings at the park, and has also dramatically increased its membership base from just a handful of members to nearly 2800.   Membership fees and facility rental fees help pay for the maintenance of the gardens as well as the wide spectrum of educational, recreational and cultural programming the park offers.  This fiscal year, more than 200,000 people will enjoy programs and events organized by the gardens, which include movie nights, concerts, children's events and more.

Programs
Programming is vital to the success of any public space. Programming attracts visitors and increases usage and safety.  The recipient of the Urban Land Institute's 2016 Urban Open Space Award, the Myriad Gardens is a very well programmed space and the Myriad Gardens Foundation has been the force behind its programming and its success.

Summer provides an especially good time for a variety of outdoor programming and entertainment. One of the most popular events is the "Dancing in the Gardens" series, which now occurs monthly from May to September. The most recent installment observed Cinco de Mayo, with hundreds of people salsa dancing in the seasonal plaza. Upcoming styles include swing dancing, line dancing, tango dancing and cha-cha.

Sonic Summer Movies Nights will continue on Wednesday evenings and has proved to be big hit with hundreds of families as well as people of all ages in attendance. Sundays offer the Twilight Concert Series providing free concerts all summer long with attendance growing year after year.

Other activities extend to full-moon bike rides and runs, providing a unique, fitness-oriented outlet for Oklahoma City residents through October. Guided plant walks showcase the beautiful gardens and knowledgeable guides offer information about the surrounding plant life. This wide variety of activities appeal to various arts, health and horticulture enthusiasts.

The Future
As the City moves forward with the development of the new MAPS 3 park, programming of that space will be critical to the success of the entire area. The City is working to develop a similar relationship with the Myriad Gardens Foundation to program the MAPS 3  as well, to ensure an experienced team works toward another success story.
