As a golf professional, I have had the privilege of visiting some extraordinary destinations, but my recent experience at The Abaco Club in the Bahamas stands out as one of the most memorable. The trip began on a simply beautiful November day, with three of my members accompanying me for an unforgettable experience.
From the moment we landed, The Abaco Club’s renowned hospitality was on full display. We were greeted at the airport by friendly staff who promptly transported us to the Club. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with freshly baked cookies, a signature Bahamian cocktail, and, of course, warm and smiling faces. This set the tone for what would be a remarkable visit.
After checking into our well-appointed accommodations, we made our way to Flippers for a drink and a quick bite. Situated on a crystal-clear beach, adjacent to the new real estate offering, The Cays, Flippers provided a relaxed atmosphere where we enjoyed delicious food served with impressive efficiency. Excitement filled the air as we anticipated our first experience on the golf course.
At the course, we were greeted by Lauren Strong, PGA and her outstanding golf team, who provided us with a brief introduction to the spectacular layout. Before our round, we spent time at the expansive and meticulously maintained practice facility. Equipped with various swing aids and premium range balls, this facility exemplifies the standard of excellence expected at top-tier golf clubs.
Over the next three days, we played three rounds of golf on what can only be described as an extraordinary layout. The course conditions were impeccable, and the design offered a unique challenge each day due to the shifting winds. This natural variability transformed the course into a new and exciting experience daily. It felt like our private playground with no tee times. The stunning beaches and diverse wildlife further enhanced the experience, making each round as enjoyable as the last.
The Abaco Club also provided a variety of ways to unwind after golf. One afternoon, we took our carts to the Tingum taco truck and savored delicious tacos right on the beach. Other group members visited the gym for a quick workout, while I opted to relax in the hot tub, taking in the breathtaking sunset over the bay. These moments of relaxation were as memorable as the golf itself.
The culinary highlight of the trip came during a family-style dinner at The Cliff House, where we were joined by Major Champion and The Abaco Club resident and Ambassador, Darren Clarke. His captivating stories from the Tour and his insights about life at The Abaco Club added a special touch to the evening. The setting, the food, and the company perfectly encapsulated the essence of The Abaco Club: a place where world-class amenities meet genuine Bahamian charm.
In every way, The Abaco Club exceeded expectations. Whether you’re seeking an unparalleled golf experience, a serene retreat, or an incredible living experience for the whole family, The Abaco Club offers something truly special. It’s a destination that I wholeheartedly recommend and cross my fingers I can return sooner than later.
