BRIGGS RANCH

I had the pleasure of attending a PGA Magazine event last year at Briggs Ranch. Accompanied by our club president, we were thoroughly impressed with “Briggs” and it was a perfect setting for this event.


The casitas (4-room cottages) were fantastic and had a very cool Southwestern vibe, tying into the overall facility theme. They have an inviting common area for visiting as a group and a private bedroom and bathroom, so you could have some alone time if that’s what you desired. In addition, the location of the casitas was perfect for taking a golf cart to and from the golf course, making it easy to get around at your own pace. Each night, the golf staff would refresh your cart for the next day’s activities.


The entire staff at Briggs was unbelievable, led by the concierge, clubhouse and golf teams. The hospitality blew us away and the Dormie Network is setting an industry benchmark in service. The staff all knew our names within a day of checking in and accommodated the group’s needs for our meetings, golf, choice of beverages and anything that came up during the stay. The staff greeted us with their famous "Ranch Water” immediately upon check-in as well as walking off the 18th green each day.


The golf experience was world-class, starting with a warm-up on the range, which was positioned closely to the first tee, keeping our group together and engaged from the start. We had fun, upbeat, and knowledgeable caddies to shepherd us around a fun and playable, yet stout Tom Fazio course. Golf is what they do at Briggs, and they do it well. If you are a purist and looking for a customizable member getaway, look no further than this San Antonio treat!

PRODUCT PARTNER REVIEW: CAP PATROL

I first learned about Cap Patrol on an Ambassador Trip to Puntacana Resort, and I was immediately intrigued by this solution to an inherent challenge facing most private clubs. With an active tournament program at DAC. prior to committing to Cap Patrol, I reached out to my peers who have Cap Patrol, all of whom had raving reviews.

 

We have an active membership that loves to compete. While we had a few skeptics in the beginning, the entire membership quickly adopted the idea of a truly level playing field, providing comfort in equity across all net events. Removing the subjectivity of member adjustments and having objective data and a pre-determined system for adjustment has alleviated any hard feelings towards our golf staff and handicap committee. Our membership now has validation on any needed adjustments, and we are seeing increased interest in tournament programs and participation.

 

Prior to partnering with Cap Patrol, our Handicap Committee would meet six-times annually, as well as prior to our men’s Member-Member and Member-Guest majors. Now, with Cap Patrol, we now meet bi-annually, providing more time for our staff to focus on servicing the membership and alleviating the time commitment for our committee members. We implement the algorithm prior to every club tournament and provide a monthly report of any adjustments to our membership, by GHIN number, to avoid “calling out” a member by name.

 

Cap Patrol is a great example of how technology is making a positive impact on our operations, saving us time and money. I look forward to future updates to the system such as team pairings and gamification, leading to more member satisfaction and engagement.
