April is Volunteer Appreciation Month

April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month and Amani Family Services would like to thank all of our volunteers for giving your time and talent to help make Amani successful. Amani volunteers help out in a variety of ways including working at fundraiser events, being part of committees, tabling outreach events to spread the word, hosting community fundraisers and more!

Join us in celebrating the countless hours donated every year by volunteers across our community to help make Fort Wayne a welcoming place for all who call it home!

Amani Staff Spotlight

Meet Anahy Martinez

Anahy is a Victim Care Advocate and has been with Amani for the past 8 months. Anahy grew up in Auburn and loves to play soccer, run and hang out with family and friends when not working.

What inspired you to join the team here?

What inspired me to join the team was after working part time at Allen County Adult Probation, I realized that I like being involved in the court system, but I was wanting to help victims who are in need and to help them through the court system.

What challenges have you faced in your role?

A challenge I have faced is some of our clients are afraid of calling law enforcement when they have any type of incident because they are afraid of everything going on with ICE.

What does Mental Health Awareness mean to you?

Being a Victim Advocate and seeing clients struggle mentally really affects me because I want my client to get the best help and I try to give them all the resources we have and resources we know. A reminder I always say when I am having a bad day is, someone is having a worst day and to always be kind.

Welcoming Fort Wayne Spotlight:

Latinx Social Services Network Builds Connection, Strengthens Collaboration

Every other month, service providers gather at the Center for Nonviolence to connect, collaborate, and strengthen support for Fort Wayne’s Latino/Hispanic community through the Latinx Social Services Network. This bimonthly gathering brings together organizations like Amani to share resources, discuss emerging needs, and coordinate care in a way that is culturally grounded and community-informed.

“What began as a vision for connection has grown into a vital space where organizations come together to share emerging needs, coordinate resources, and strengthen collaboration,” says Elisiana Diaz-Martin, Marketing and Development Co-Coordinator at the Center for Nonviolence. “This network reflects the power of partnership, ensuring that care is not only accessible but also responsive and rooted in the community's lived experiences.”

Looking to get connected to the network? Contact The Center for Nonviolence at https://www.centerfornv.org/contact-us.

We partner with immigrant and refugee families and the community to promote safety, encourage personal growth, and foster a spirit of belonging.
