This year's theme for Mental Health Awareness Month is "More Good Days, Together", which encourages all communities to think about what a good day means to each of us.

At Amani, a good day can mean many different things for our clients. It could be a day that you spend playing with your children. Or one more day of sobriety. It might be the day that you decide to speak up and stop the cycle of domestic abuse. Or a day that you receive your worker's permit so you can better provide for your family.

Amani was built on the premise to help others who may not know how to get help, or where to ask for it, due to language or cultural barriers. Our staff of 24 full-time employees have many titles from Community Navigator, Prevention Specialist and Victim Advocates to Attorney, Paralegal, Caseworkers and Therapists. But beyond our titles, we all share one goal; to walk alongside our refugee and immigrant neighbors in their journey to better mental health. We serve and welcome those who have no one to turn to when they are not having a good day.

What does a good day mean to you?

And how can you help make sure that everyone has a good day too?

Welcoming Fort Wayne Spotlight:

Local Churches Host First Ever International Welcome Day

On Saturday, May 2nd, two local Fort Wayne churches came together to celebrate local international community members at a special event. The first-ever International Welcome Day, hosted by International Restoration Church (IRCFW) and Pathway Community Church, brought together foreign-born community members, local allies, and non-profit organizations for an evening of connection, hope, and resource-sharing.

Attendees of the free event enjoyed dinner, networking, and a keynote by guest speaker Zach Szmara, Founder and Executive Director of Immigrant Connection, a non-profit dedicated to helping churches support the immigrant community through low-cost legal services.

"This is more than an event," said IRCFW Lead Pastor Francois Mikobi. "It is a celebration of culture, a place of connection, and a space where immigrants can find support, resources, and community."

Pastor Mikobi, a refugee from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, knows that lifeline firsthand. Arriving in the U.S. over 20 years ago with help from Catholic Charities, he’s now paying it forward—creating the same support system that once helped him thrive.

We partner with immigrant and refugee families and the community to promote safety, encourage personal growth, and foster a spirit of belonging.
