On Saturday, May 2nd, two local Fort Wayne churches came together to celebrate local international community members at a special event. The first-ever International Welcome Day, hosted by International Restoration Church (IRCFW) and Pathway Community Church, brought together foreign-born community members, local allies, and non-profit organizations for an evening of connection, hope, and resource-sharing.
Attendees of the free event enjoyed dinner, networking, and a keynote by guest speaker Zach Szmara, Founder and Executive Director of Immigrant Connection, a non-profit dedicated to helping churches support the immigrant community through low-cost legal services.
"This is more than an event," said IRCFW Lead Pastor Francois Mikobi. "It is a celebration of culture, a place of connection, and a space where immigrants can find support, resources, and community."
Pastor Mikobi, a refugee from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, knows that lifeline firsthand. Arriving in the U.S. over 20 years ago with help from Catholic Charities, he’s now paying it forward—creating the same support system that once helped him thrive.
