The American Revolution:

A Watershed for Women? -

An America 250 Lecture

Speaker: Dr. Mary Cain, Ph.D.

Agnes Scott College

Tuesday, April 14, 2026 - 6:30 p.m.

Milton Branch Library

855 Mayfield Road

Milton, Georgia 30009

Join us as we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in our year long look at early American History.

The fifth lecture in the Milton Library's America 250 celebration will be led by Dr. Mary Cain, Ph.D. Associate Professor of History, Agnes Scott College.

During the War for Independence, American women were active supporters of the patriot cause. This talk will consider women’s political awareness and their many contributions to the revolutionary effort, including homefront management, wartime domestic production, and, crucially, maintaining steady boycotts of British goods. We will explore the many ways that women’s work advanced the independence project for the nation, and ask the question of whether that work also served to promote women’s liberation.

Thank you to the Milton Library and the Alpharetta and Old Milton County Historical Society for their support with these programs and events.
