Update from Vestry Member, Amy Helms

As you may know, some of the women from Grace and St. Thomas have started our own group of Episcopal Church Women, ECW. We have been inspired by the men’s joint ministry and at our joint vestry meeting in March, we women decided that we too should give it a try. We have had two meetings and we have found great opportunities for local outreach ministry.

At our first meeting, a member of the ECW informed us that there is a national Episcopal Church Women already well established and they have bi-laws. This was news to some of us, it certainly was to me. I did a little research and came across their website: www.ecwnational.org I was delighted to learn that it was founded as early as 1871 and they have been involved with children’s programs feed, education and providing community grants around the world. They are a volunteer organization that creates a legacy for Episcopal Church Women to lead future generations with stewardship in Christ.

This is a beautiful way that we women of Grace and St. Thomas can unite and help so many that are in need within our community. Currently, the four programs that ECW would like to support are Elevate Bay, which is a mentoring program through Bay District Schools; A New Day that works with the Bay County Sheriff’s Jail through counseling in their Lifeline Program for Substance Abuse; Save the Closet which works with providing clothes to those in need in a dignified way; and Lucky Puppy Rescue that educates on spaying/neutering your dogs, offers adoption and fostering and they are always in need of dog supplies.

While the mission of ECW is community outreach, our other goal is to make time for reading scripture, have prayer and fellowship at our meetings. We encourage all women to get involved at any level you wish with ECW. We are having fun watching this local program blossom. We ask that you pray for the ECW in that we are in-tune to where and how God wants us to spend our time to make the most meaningful impact in our community, and that we continue to honor Him along the way.

Thank you for reading and May blessings abound,

Amy Helms
