The A-Blast of News and Events from the
Church of the Annunciation

The Sixth Sunday of Easter
May 22, 2022
A Pastoral Statement from Presiding Bishop Michael Curry
My heart is heavy with the news that a white supremacist gunman took the lives of 10 children of God in Buffalo on Saturday. I grew up walking distance from the scene of this hateful crime, and my friends and I used to ride our bikes around the neighborhood. Buffalo’s Black community raised and formed me. I grieve with the city and people I love.

The loss of any human life is tragic, but there was deep racial hatred driving this shooting, and we have got to turn from the deadly path our nation has walked for much too long. Bigotry-based violence—any bigotry at all—against our siblings who are people of color, Jewish, Sikh, Asian, trans, or any other group, is fundamentally wrong. As baptized followers of Jesus of Nazareth, we are called to uphold and protect the dignity of every human child of God, and to actively uproot the white supremacy and racism deep in the heart of our shared life.

Please join me in prayer for the shattered families in Buffalo. Please also join me in expressing profound gratitude for the intervention by Buffalo police that likely saved many other lives. Even amid tragedy, even when manifestations of evil threaten to overwhelm, let us hold fast to the good. It is the only way that leads to life.
Ascension Day Eucharist
Thursday, May 26 is Ascension Day. The Feast of the Ascension is one of the major feasts of the Church and falls 40 days after Easter. (This is why it is always on a Thursday, not a Sunday.) We will celebrate Ascension Day at our usual Thursday service time of 9:30 a.m.
Summer Service Time

We will return to our prepandemic summer schedule of having only one Sunday service beginning
May 29 at 9:15 a.m. We will alternate between Rite One and Rite Two throughout the summer.

We will continue to hold Thursday's Healing Service on at 9:30 a.m. in June.

Memorial Day, May 30

The church office will be closed Monday, May 30,
in observance of Memorial Day.

Should you have a pastoral emergency, please contact
Fr. Matthew at 941.725.0891.
A big "thank you" to everyone from Annunciation who came out to STREAM's Joshua Assembly last Monday to celebrate this year's cycle of STREAM. In the coming months, we will continue to follow up on the work this year, invest for the future, and to begin planning for house meetings this fall to listen to the ongoing needs and concerns of the community.
A GREAT time was had by ALL at

Mark your calendars for our next
Game Night on Tuesday,
June 14, 5:00 - 8:00 pm.

Join us for fellowship, food and games.
Stay tuned for more information as it gets closer.

Roser Food Pantry Needs
We continue to accept items for the Roser Food Pantry, which assists people who live, work, and worship on Anna Maria Island. While the Food Pantry is grateful for all the items donated, they are currently in need of canned fruit and toothpaste. (Toothpaste is of particular importance as funds on TANF cards can only pay for food products.)

You can leave items in the baskets near the narthex door and we will get them up to Roser.
Men's Breakfast

We are excited to be holding the Men's Breakfast "almost" every Wednesday at 8 am!

All men are welcome!

Coffee Hour

Would you like to bring in some snacks to share?

Sign up in Lowe Hall!

Join us for some fellowship, coffee and refreshments
following Sunday services!
Prayer Requests
Please contact the church office, by email, phone or just a note and let us know who you would like to be placed on the prayer list, including those who might currently be on it.

Please indicate your prayer requests as being for "long-term" or "short-term" needs.
On the lighter side...
