We have moved!
The new Appalachian District office has opened in it's new location at 1314 West Jackson St, Suite 101, Gate City, VA 24251. An open house will be held later this year and everyone is invited.

Concerns & Celebrations:
  • Please be in prayer for the Rev. Robert Cloud, Alley's Chapel. Bob recently underwent major back surgery. The surgery went well and he is recuperating at home.
  • Please be in prayer for the Rev. Ken Purscell, Crab Orchard UMC, and his wife, Koni, District Church & Community Worker, on the death of Ken's father, the Rev. Keith W. Purscell, on July 15, 2018 in Mankato, MN. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, 8/12/18 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Mankato, MN. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. The service will follow at 2:30 p.m.. Burial will be on Monday, 8/13/18, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Omaha, NE.
  • Please be in prayer for our Superintendent, Rev. Jeff Wright. Jeff's back has been bothering him again. He is doing physical therapy, in lieu of surgery, at this time.

Combined Meeting of the Finance Committees: There will be a meeting of the former Big Stone Gap & Kingsport Districts' Finance Committees on Tuesday, 7/31/18, 6:00 p.m., here at the new District Office (1314 West Jackson St, Suite 101, Gate City, VA 24251). The 208th Jonesville Camp Meeting will be held from 8/5 - 8/8/2018, 7:00 pm each night, at Jonesville Campground Camp Shed. This year's preachers will be: Rev. Randy Frye, Rev. Josh Kilbourne, Rev. Jeff Wadley and Rev. Will Shewey. Click here for the flyer. There will be special music each night, free admission and nursery provided. Roots & Shoots, Appalachian District's Older Adult's Ministry Event, will take place on Thursday, 8/16, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at Colonial Heights UMC. The event is open to the first 200 paid reservations... no walk-ins accepted. Deadline to receive reservations is 8/6/18 at noon. Click here for the flyer and reservation.

AP District Minister's Meeting will be a picnic at Camp Bays Mountain on Sunday, 8/19/18. Swimming and Camp tours will begin at 3:00 pm, followed by gathering / fellowship at 4:30 pm. The meal will begin at 5:00 pm. Please bring a side dish and/or a dessert. The district will provide the meats and drinks. Families are welcomed to attend. The Camp is located at 1435 S'mores Trail, Kingsport, TN 37660. We realize some of you will have potential conflicts with church programming but we hope you will be able to work your schedule to attend. We want to make this an event for the whole family!

Appalachian District Fall Lay Servant Training will take place on Saturday, 10/6/18, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, at Three Bells UMC. Courses offered will be: Basic Lay Servant; Life Together in the United Methodist Connection and Leading Worship -- both being Advanced Courses. Also, another opportunity will take place on 10/13/18, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, at Crossroads UMC. Courses offered will be Basic Lay Servant; Living Our Beliefs: The United Methodist Way and Called to Preach -- both being Advanced Courses. A bulletin insert / registration will be emailed to pastors and churches soon. Until then, feel free to call Beverley at the District Office to register at: 276/523-3025. Cost is $25, with exception to the Polity course, which is $30. Anyone interested in purchasing a 2016 UM Discipline can do so for an additional $55.00.

Camp Bays Mountain News: Good News!! The Camp has exceeded the $25,000 matching funds for the Pool Bath-House match challenge. Thanks for everyone who has given toward this match or helped secure donations for it. Better News!! The family which challenged us with this matching grant has increased their matching grant to $40,000 and extended the deadline to Labor Day! Please consider donating to the camp. Holston Administrative Professionals' Annual Conference: Serving with a Joyful Heart, will be held from 9/20 - 9/21/2018 at the Courtyard Marriott, Pigeon Forge, TN. You can earn 0.6 continuing education units upon completion of the conference. All office staff who are interested are invited to attend.
