Employee Excellence Nominee: Jessy Nathaniel

"Jessy has been instrumental in the development and revision of many of the processes and documents of the MH&W counseling program. She has also provided orientation to the other counselors as they have come on board in a collaborative approach. Jessy takes the initiative to offer suggestions, bring in new resources and serve in leadership roles whenever asked." -Excerpt

Employee Excellence Nominee: Tracy Cohen

"Tracy goes above and beyond on a regular basis! She is always willing to help the team out in various ways, in helping with organization, accountability, and support. She has helped from small to bigger projects, helping us improve systems in place and even putting together an impossible files organizer. The Care Coordination team is incredibly grateful for Tracy" -Excerpt

Employee Excellence Nominee: Nadia Bastien

"To support a completely new Student Support team this year, Nadia partnered with each individual and group on campus to understand what everyone’s role is and created a Organizational Structure Chart and Campus Support Breakdown that explains what each program does. These documents guide administration, campus staff and faculty to know exactly who to go to for each need, allowing more students to be matched with the most appropriate service. She works closely with her leadership team to enhance the processes for best supporting students, families, and teachers. " -Excerpt

Internship Department Update

The CISCT Internship Department is implementing a new policy that will require all eligible undergraduate and graduate-level students serving an educational internship to enroll in the AmeriCorps Education Award Only (EAO) program. This change will be effective beginning the Fall 2024 Spring 2025 academic year.

An intern will not be eligible to participate in the EAO program if:

  • They receive federal work study aid
  • They are completing less than 280 hours for their educational program

Additional requirements for EAO interns are as follows:

  • Completion of AmeriCorps specific trainings
  • Completion of an AmeriCorps specific timesheet
  • Provide support for 1 Tier-1 event on campus

For most interns, their service time as an EAO will not require that they complete additional hours beyond that of their internship. There are two service term options interns may be enrolled in depending on the number of hours they are completing for their university program.

EAO Service Term Options

  • Minimum Time: 300 hours
  • Quarter Time: 450 hours

All Field Instructors and Task Supervisors will receive training from both the Internship Department and AmeriCorps team to assist with the logistics of this new programming.

To request interns for the upcoming school year (Fall 2024-Spring 2025), please fill out our Intern Interest Form https://forms.office.com/r/T7ARKNafdy.

More details will be coming soon. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected]

Breathe for Change’s Free Toolkit: Trauma-informed Strategies to Help Students Feel Safe and Supported

More than two-thirds of students report at least one traumatic event by age 16, which can how they think, feel, behave, and learn for years after the event. Understanding how trauma shows up in the brain, and in the body, allows us to address its symptoms through trauma-informed education. When educators are trauma-informed and receive the support they need, they are better equipped to identify and navigate trauma when it shows up in the classroom.

In this toolkit, you will gain 10 trauma-informed, SEL-aligned strategies that can be integrated into your classroom and school community to help students feel safe and supported, including:

Your free toolkit includes:

  • 2 settle in activities for starting class and school-day transitions
  • 2 focus activities for student engagement
  • 2 creative exercises to support self-expression
  • 2 mindful movement activities for brain breaks
  • 1 breathing exercise for self-management
  • 1 relaxation technique for self-awareness
