Employee Excellence Nominee Spotlight: Elvira Gutierrez

“Elvira has really stepped up in helping everyone on the SmartKids team, but she has especially stepped up in helping me at Zavala Elementary in the absence of our PM. She took on meeting deliverables that were missing and devoted her time to picking up at a school in the middle of the year when students were really needing support. SHE IS AMAZING AND SO KIND.”

Employee Excellence Nominee Spotlight: Claudia Garate

Claudia has always shown great love and care for her students. She is incredibly creative in working collaboratively with students and their families to find what works best for them and how to support their growth. Claudia consistently seeks to broaden her understanding of DEI practices and the students and families she works with to best serve them and advocate for everyone. Claudia is supportive of everyone she works with including staff. Claudia goes above and beyond every day at her job. She consistently shows up for her students and school staff to find new ways to be supportive. Especially now during closeout time, she has gone above and beyond finding meaningful ways to create mindful closeouts with students while also tackling all of our requirements. It is a joy to work with Claudia and get consultation and encouragement from her! If there ever is a day where the work is hard or feels impossible, she is the self-care and encouragement queen!”

Employee Excellence Nominee Spotlight: Letsvia Reyes Lerma

“For Letsvia, connecting with, meeting the needs of, and empowering families comes naturally. Parents and staff are drawn to her kindness and positive attitude and benefit from her knowledge and resourcefulness. Though it was their first year for CIS on our campus, so much was accomplished! Letsvia supervised and mentored some amazing interns, brought a wide variety of partnerships to work with a students across the grade levels and collaborated with staff to expand pre-existing school traditions and cultural events at our school. Although she prefers to be behind the scenes, her work stands out! We are so thankful for Letsvia and her dedication to our students, families and staff!”

CIS Workplace Essentials Pathways (Auzmor)

Again? Yes. All employees are required to complete both CIS Workplace Essentials pathways in Auzmor annually. All employees hired before Sept. 1, 2022 have been assigned 2023 CIS Workplace Essentials and have recently received an email letting them know the pathways have been assigned. Campus- and community-based employees must complete both pathways before leaving for summer vacation/break. All other employees must complete the pathways no later than July 31, 2023.

Employees who started with CIS after Aug. 1, 2022, and have successfully completed these pathways as part of their employee onboarding, are not required to complete them again at this time.

These pathways provide information about CIS policies, procedures, processes and individual/supervisor/organization roles and responsibilities in several important areas. Reviewing them once a year is required so everyone shares understanding of agency policy and is reminded about procedures and processes. Path 1 contains essential courses about equal employment, discrimination, harassment, accommodations, and ADA. Path 2 contains essential courses about workplace safety, worker’s comp, and our employee assistance program.
