Employee Excellence Nominee Spotlight: Deidre Brown

“Deidre has become an all-staff planning expert in her short time at CISCT. She is the backbone of the All Staff Planning Committee and ensures all details are considered. Deidre has gone above and beyond to juggle multiple events happening in a short time frame - like a campus visit, donor event and All-Staff all in one month! Deidre stays calm even under pressure and works smart to balance multiple competing priorities. She comes in early, stays late, delivers materials, puts up signs, manages invites and food and all the details. Thank you Deidre!"

Employee Excellence Nominee Spotlight: Melissa Dominguez

“Melissa's program leads her campus to celebrate multicultural holidays and events that incorporate student voice and leadership. The CIS program is a consistent presence and support for students on campus amidst faculty/teacher turnover. She demonstrates integrity through her development of systems to ensure quality work. Melissa is very intentional about keeping the entire student support team engaged and connected. She is student-centered and makes meaningful relationships with her students that support their educational experience.”

DEI Training Opportunity

Communities In Schools is pleased to have Whitney Drake, a senior staff attorney at American Gateways, provide a free DEI-centered training to our staff & network on the "public charge" test. This training will be personalized around our questions regarding public benefits & support programs that are available to families who have recently immigrated to the United States. American Gateways is an Austin, Texas non-profit organization that provides free and low-cost immigration legal services. Ms. Drake has worked at American Gateways since 2016. In this training, American Gateways will discuss the basics of U.S. immigration law, the “public charge” test (what it is, who it applies to, and when), and which public benefits are considered “safe” to receive for immigration purposes. They will provide referral resources for common issues including tax preparation, immigration legal aid, and family legal aid. The group will have ample time for Q&A.

CEUs will not be offered, but you can enroll in the Auzmor Event for credit toward our shared DEI goals. A recording will be available after the presentation. Please feel free to share in your networks widely! This will be a live, virtual training occurring over Zoom on Friday, May 19th, 9:30-11am.

Mental Health Awareness Month, Proclamation in San Marcos.

Camino Real Elementary had 23 students participate in the after-school CIS soccer club. Students came to practice once a week after school for ten weeks. On their last practice the students played a game, and their parents were invited to see them show off all the new skills they have learned in soccer club. There was an awesome turn out of parents that came out to support their kiddos. Others in attendance were the principal, PE coach, and some teachers that came out to cheer on the students. The students received a certificate for participation and goods sportsmanship at the end of the game.
