PMD & Chief Program Officer Update

As we prepare to launch the Apollo database and closeout CIS NAV for the 2023-2024 school year, the decision was made to shift responsibilities so that the organization will have capacity to continue to develop architecture in the Apollo database even after this initial launch. To meet the needs of students and families, we will continue to innovate and adapt in response to community needs, which means adding new programs and supports that we will build into Apollo. We will also be working to integrate other department systems and process into Salesforce in the coming years. The responsibilities for managing grants and contracts will be moving from the Performance Measures Dept. and will become the responsibility of the Chief Program &Impact Officer. The Impact and Grants Officer position will become the Data Strategy Officer position.

Introducing the Male Student Success Coalition

This fall, Communities In Schools of Central Texas will be launching the new Male Student Achievement Program (MSAP), bringing together best practices and curricula from the XY-Zone and MBK Scholars programs to improve education and post-secondary outcomes for high school males. In keeping with our pledge to be #AllinforKids in Central Texas, we are furthering our commitment to this endeavor through systemic change by powering the Male Student Success Coalition. Building long-term support for systems changes requires a team and an intentional strategy.

The Male Student Success Coalition (MSS) is a group of social change agents committed to improving the life outcomes of young men of color in Central Texas by incorporating academic and post-secondary supports in all the places where they live, learn, work, play, and pray. In the acknowledgement that young men of color must be valued, uplifted, and cared for, the MSS Coalition will work to make lasting systemic change to improve the disproportionate education outcomes for males and particularly young men of color that we have long seen in data. The coalition will explicitly name and collectively address the crisis that this education gap represents.

There will be a Male Student Success Coalition kickoff event on August 24th and 20 seats are reserved for CIS Staff to attend. If you are interested in attending the kickoff on the 24th (8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Vintage Villas - 4209 ECK LANE, AUSTIN, TEXAS 78734* planned time and location, not final) please submit this form by August 3rd.

Development Department Updates

  • We are gearing up for our annual Ready for School Supply Drive July 5 – August 31, 2023! During the drive, businesses and individuals that support CIS will create fundraising pages and encourage their employees, friends, and family to make a gift to help support our effort to provide students with school supplies in the fall. Here’s how you can help:
  • If you are closely connected to a local business that you think would consider running their own employee-led campaign, please contact Lila Weatherly Rivera at [email protected].
  • If you would like to create your own page to fundraise for the supply drive, you can create an individual page at this link: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/readyforschool2023/register/form/registration
  • Please note: all dollars raised for the 2023 drive will go to the general fund for Barbara to order bulk supply shipments and place other orders as needed throughout the school year. We would be so grateful for your help fundraising for school supplies, but please know that we unfortunately cannot direct funds raised on your page to any particular campus.

Don't forget that All-Staff will be August 7th. Parking passes will be sent out via email and more information will be in the "Welcome Back" newsletter that will come out the first week of August.
