Back to School All-Staff 2022 Feedback

CIS Program Staff Mentorship Program

At CIS, we want to ensure that all our new campus based staff have a welcoming and successful entry into their CIS experience. Feedback from previous 1st year staff highlights the value of having a peer mentor or opportunities to learn from their peers. Therefore, we are hoping to build an inventory of current staff who are interested in and willing to serve as a mentor for a new hire and/or host a new staff member for a job shadow opportunity. We have gathered input from previous year mentors and have provided various mentorship options this school year.

Mentor Eligibility:

  • Must have been in your role for more than 1 school year
  • Must have Program Director/ Program Manager approval

If you are interested in learning more, please join an information session on Sept. 1st. Please sign up for one of the information sessions via Auzmor under the events tab, so we can have an accurate count of the number of attendees to expect in each session.

  • Session #1: Sept. 1st (9:00-10:30am)
  • Session #2: Sept. 1st (12:30pm-2:00pm)

Mentor interest forms are due by Friday, September 2nd.

This training will look at the basics of Motivational Interviewing – what it is, how it’s used, and how you can use it to promote change with your students on campus. Thursday, September 8  10:00 — 11:30am

Employee Spotlight: Edith Rivera celebrates 3 years with CIS!

  • What was your first position at Communities In Schools? "I joined CIS as the Community Outreach Specialist and worked in the Volunteer Department."
  • What is one thing that has changed in your time at CIS and one thing that has remained the same? "One thing that has changed is the frequency of seeing other CISters in person! I loved seeing my peers at Central and the pandemic came to change all that."
  • What is your favorite memory from your time at CIS? "When I first joined the Care Coordination team and attended our first team meeting. I was very nervous because I was replacing an amazing Care Coordinator who was retiring and feared the group dynamics were going to be off. However, the team was super supportive and welcoming. The meeting was super relaxed and we laughed so much. I felt part of the team right away! Now I look forward to all our team meetings, especially the team retreats!"
  • When you aren’t working, what is your favorite way to spend time? "I love reading, drawing, and finding new places to travel to and explore with my kids. Depending on the day and mood, I can spend it being out and about, or staying home and catching up on my favorite shows/books."
  • Fun Fact: "I attended 6 different schools – 2 elementary, 2 middle and 2 high schools. All these moves helped me become more comfortable with change."
