In Celebration of Meghan Williams

Strong Melanated Black Woman

Meghan worked at CIS of Houston for over 7 years before joining the CIS Central Texas team. She was a beloved friend and colleague to many in the CIS network.

Meghan was apart of not just the In Living Color Affinity group but apart of other CIS Committees. She was always down for laughs and a good time. She will truly be missed!

Employee Excellence Nominee: Erica Gallardo

Being a first year Program Manager, I was totally lost, some days I still feel that way, but Erica's knowledge of the program and most importantly the mission of Communities In Schools has been so helpful. I let Erica know when I as wrongly accused of something and she immediately supported me and set a date to meet with the administrators. During the meeting she spoke wisely, respectfully yet straightforward in support of me and CIS. She said to me that she believes in her program mangers and that we are all like family. Unbelievable, people like Erica are the epitome of selfless work of Communities In Schools, and I am grateful for her! During CIS Day she gave me words of encouragement and comfort in knowing that she and CIS support me. She is a beautiful example of what Communities In Schools is all about, others over self. Everyday I am grateful to work with the guidance and support of Erica Gallardo. She is real, she is wise, she is strong, she is devoted, she is absolutely rare in the world of work and has a beautiful heart and soul! - except from nomination

Black Youth Day is a daylong event for students to learn about engineering through hands-on activities led and taught by students within their own community. Black Youth Day aims to promote engineering where it hasn't been promoted before in a way that allows participants to see others with the same identity, hoping to show students that they have a community within a Predominantly White Institution. Activities include a panel of Black engineers and UT students, geocaching and scavenger hunt, and hands-on experiments and activities.
