Update on Apollo Launch


We are currently reevaluating the Apollo launch date. CIS hosted and internal User Acceptance Testing and completed a final UAT yesterday, Tuesday 9/6. In an effort to roll out a high quality product that is useful and efficient, we are pausing in order to address minor issues identified. In the meantime, continue using your interim tracking tools and communicate with you direct supervisor if you are in need of any support. Please expect an update in the coming weeks.

Conference Applications


Communities In Schools of Central Texas invests in the professional development of team members by sending small cohorts of staff to CIS national conferences, and others as appropriate.


Click here to read about the criteria used for selecting staff to attend. There are two upcoming conferences you may apply to attend. Please consult with your supervisor first before applying. The deadline to apply for Town Hall is 9/13 and 9/23 for the DEI Summit.

Site Supervisors, please check out this Training Make Up Plan if your member missed a training at MOST. We will have multiple opportunities throughout September to review any training missed.

Draylen Mason Fellows Program


Soundwaves is accepting applications for the 2022-2023 Draylen Mason Fellows Program. The application is open until Monday, September 12th: austinsoundwaves.org/draylen.

Open to all rising high school music students, fellows receive a monetary stipend of up to $1000 to offset costs related to the development of their creative work and participate in monthly workshops addressing social action and music. The fellowship culminates in a capstone performance concert, where fellows are responsible for the show's production, from theme and content to performance.

Increasing Teen Mental Health Awareness through Hispanic Community Outreach


Webinar addressing how culture and ethnicity have impacted identifying and treating mental health conditions of Hispanic teens. Tomorrow, Thursday, September 8th 11 a.m. VIRTUAL

Strong Voices Public Speaking Training


4 seats available - sign up by September 14th. The Strong Voices Public Speaking Training (FALL COHORT) is (3) 2 hour in-person events (must commit to attending all 3 sessions) plus prep time before each training event. It is limited to 12 participants. Learners will develop confidence in their ability to communicate about Communities In Schools

and will gain experience preparing for, and giving a presentation

3 in-person sessions from 8:30-10:30 a.m.:

Together at the Table: Hunger and Poverty Summit brings together the brightest minds and most influential leaders working to alleviate food insecurity at home and around the world. Stacy Dean, Deputy Under Secretary of USDA's Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Service will present one of the Keynote addresses.

AWP Personal & Professional Resilience




This training focuses on the flexible strength of resilient people, and the ways we can develop those qualities within ourselves. Evaluate your approach to the events and challenges that confront you, and learn what you can do to better insulate yourself from stressors.

 

Topics include:

  • Defining resilience
  • Identifying “untruths” that we believe
  • How to dispute these beliefs
  • Building resilience

FreshSTART, a program through the National Society of Black Engineers providing a Saturday of various STEM interactive workshops for students in grades 6-12 and their parents! It’s free and open to ALL!

Code Chica, is an 8-week event for 8-12 grade girls to gain knowledge about HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Students will work together with instructors and guest speakers to learn fundamentals and create their own website!


This program is FREE, and upon completion of the program, students will receive a $80 stipend and a certificate outlining their accomplishments. 


Dates: September 24th - November 12th (Saturdays)
