The word “April” is derived from the Latin word “aperit” which means “to open.” This rings true in our community in several ways. Responsible growth and development is a great investment in Concord Township. We are fortunate to have these companies opening doors in our community soon. In addition to the UH/Lake Health recent announcement of a $1.8 million investment into Tri-Point Hospital to upgrade their birthing unit that we discussed in the March newsletter, we also are looking forward to the Stephen Douglas Corp (SDC) that is currently under construction. SDC, northeast Ohio’s largest engineering company designs, engineers and builds custom machinery for factory automation, is slated to open a 70k square foot facility mid-summer. This new location on Discovery Lane will create over 50 new high-paying jobs for our area.
Additionally, Sheetz convenience store and gas station is scheduled to break ground this year at Capital/SR44. We are also looking forward to the ground breaking of Johnny’s Auto Spa + Detail and Little Mountain Creamery both on Crile Road.
These businesses have joined the Concord-Painesville Joint Economic Development District (JEDD). The JEDD performs economic development for Concord Township and provides tax revenue from the business in the district to Concord Township.
Aside from businesses, Concord currently has six housing developments in various stages of development resulting in 365 new homes to be built in the area.
Concord Township Trustee, Morgan McIntosh spoke last week at The Eastern Lake County Chamber of Commerce regarding the community’s upcoming development plans. The News-Herald covered the speech with a front page article which you can read here. McIntosh stated, “We’re very excited about the responsible growth in our community. Our investment in public safety, healthcare, businesses, parks and housing, will add significant value and benefits to our growing community.”
So stay tuned for updates and check our Facebook page and listen to our Trustee meetings! Have a great spring!
