Cassondra Kubit
Helping Clients and Supporting LMTs
Rochester, NY
Cassondra was suffering from debilitating migraines and headaches when, one day, she received a massage. The relief from that treatment felt life-saving, as she had suffered from these migraines for so long. She immediately changed her career from Plant Biology to becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist. Sixteen and a half years later, Cassondra has helped many clients, focusing on treatment-based work.
She started her career in a Physical Therapy office specializing in lymphodema treatments and mainly focused on breast cancer treatments. This inspired her to go to the Norton School of Lymphatic Therapy, and she became certified early in her career to treat this condition. Furthering her knowledge, Cassondra returned to school to become a Physical Therapist Assistant. After school, she worked as a resident lymphodema specialist in a nursing home and learned about the world of plastic surgery recovery at her second job at a local spa. This led her to specialize in Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and scar tissue treatment. Thirteen years ago, Cassondra was the only therapist certified in MLD in Rochester until the therapy grew in popularity.
In February 2015, Cassondra started a business to help LMTs own their business without the overhead of start-up costs and advertising. The therapists' rent covered advertising, laundry, tables, equipment, and more. Her business, Healing Massage Retreat, became a way to support local LMTs in growing their practice and supporting each other.
However, since COVID-19, many LMTs have left the profession in the local area, which has affected her business. Due to the shortage of LMTs, Cassondra’s business hasn’t fully recovered, and she has had to turn away many potential clients because there are fewer therapists at her business. While it’s been difficult, Cassondra continues to operate Healing Massage Retreat and seeks more LMTs who want to build their practice with her support.
The AMTA-NY chapter is proud to have Cassondra Kubit as a member who continues to advance the art, science, and practice of massage therapy. If you know Cassondra, make sure to say thanks for everything she does to strengthen our profession!
