Annual Meeting Cancelled
FreeState Cancels April 21 Annual Meeting in Proactive Response to Health Concerns
FreeState Electric Cooperative’s board of trustees has made the decision to cancel the cooperative’s annual meeting scheduled for April 21 in Perry. Trustee elections will be determined by mail-in ballots beginning April 1 and ending April 17.

We are witnessing unprecedented decisions in the past few weeks. FreeState looks to best practices for a lot of guidance, and we’ve done that again as we face COVID-19. We are canceling our annual meeting.

Trustees Earn Director Gold Status
FreeState Electric Cooperative trustees, Jeanine Murphy and Larry Butel, earned Director Gold certification. The Director Gold credential recognizes board members who have continued their education during the course of their service on the board. The credential is the final piece of a three-step certificate program, hosted by the National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (NRECA). The credential process helps trustees stay current on the issues affecting the future of cooperatives and prepare them to make informed business decisions in the boardroom.
Youth Program Winners Announced
FreeState Electric Cooperative is sponsoring four local high school students to participate in the 2020 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour and Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp. Winners were selected based on their application and essay on the topic of cooperative engagement among the next generation of members.

In 2019 FreeState members generously gave $113,412 in spare change to area organizations. The FreeState Community Foundation facilitates the program with the help of a volunteer member committee of five that reviews and awards grant funds quarterly. 

Member Notice
FreeState Electric Cooperative experienced low sales due to mild weather and has entered into a revenue requirement study. This study will provide the board of trustees a road map for future revenue and the financial requirements of the cooperative.

FreeState is a consumer-owned and consumer-controlled electric cooperative. FreeState operates on a not-for-profit basis for the benefit of its member-consumers. Accordingly, the Board has adopted this Policy on Privacy of Member-Consumer Information to establish fair information principles for FreeState in carrying out its responsibility to respect the privacy of personally identifiable information about member-consumers.
