Make Sure You Know Before You Vote
Are you ready for upcoming elections? Do you know where the candidates stand on disability issues? Did you know Wisconsin’s primary elections are coming up on August 14?

If you want to see improvements in disability policies it is important to know what your elected officials think. The Survival Coalition (The Arc Wisconsin is a co-chair) asked each candidate for Governor to respond to a short list of questions about Medicaid, special education, long-term care, mental health supports, transportation, and more. See the results of that survey (not all candidates responded).

Dates to Remember: Next Elections
Partisan Primary: August 14, 2018
Fall General: November 6, 2018

If you have any questions about your polling place or required voter ID, check out the Disability Vote Coalition resources .
Learn about how The Arc Wisconsin is Supporting Families to Plan for the Future
When it comes to thinking about the future, Wisconsin families are like everyone else across the country they don’t have a plan in place, even though they know they should. Many families think future planning is mostly about finances — but good future planning is about so much more. It is about daily routines and future plans about where to live and work. It’s about growing people’s independence in their own decision-making. It really is a holistic look at someone’s life and how to secure and plan for their success and happiness. See how The Arc Wisconsin is working to meet this need.
Working Hard to Build a More Inclusive Future
We believe that our society is stronger when people with I/DD have the same opportunities to live, learn, work, and contribute to their community as anyone else.

By keeping people like you and chapters across the state up-to-date on opportunities to become involved as advocates, we play a critical role in statewide efforts with legislators, our Governor, and state agencies to change or enact laws that benefit the lives of people with I/DD and their families. Your support makes The Arc’s powerful voice even stronger in Wisconsin as we address issues like Medicaid, education, long-term care, and more that are critical to the disability community. Help us fight for a community that is inclusive for all!
Update on the Wisconsin Family and Caregiver Support Alliance
Just one year ago The Arc Wisconsin convened a coalition of aging and disability groups to talk about ways to better support families who are providing care to their loved ones. On July 26 those groups convened again to celebrate their accomplishments and look toward what’s next. Make sure to check out and share their resources.
Congratulations to our SWAG Winners!
Our Congressional representatives are back home in August and it is crucial to remind them and all our elected officials that Disability Rights are Human Rights! This month The Arc Wisconsin ran a small contest to arm our advocates with the Disability Rights are Human Rights message. Congratulations to these 11 lucky winners who will be wearing their swag when they meet with their elected officials!
